It seems my XT is geared tall for first gear and if I don't get on the gas and slip the clutch the bike wants to fall on it's face. Does anyone else have this problem?

I've noticed that the Uly first gear is a bit taller than what I'm used to on my X1, but it hasn't taken too long for me to get used to it. The taller first gear and smoother low speed/low RPM cruising is nice.

On my way to work every day, I have to go through about a half mile of a 25mph zone.. the Uly handles it a LOT better than what I've dealt with before. The X1 always seemed to be lost somewhere between first and second at that speed.

You will get used to the gearing. I guess XT is new? It might just need being broken in and maybe a TPS reset.

But you can convert to the primary sprockets and chain from the 900 for a 10% reduction in gear ratio.

I agree with PK above.
My xb12x is much better at commuting at a docile rate.
I took my X1 to work this morning.
No heated grips and "easy spin" cold tires = YIKES!

I've noticed it. What I would consider a 'normal' rpm for a smooth clutch release tends to result in a few seconds of chugging.

To get a smooth launch I have to rev a bit more than I want, still not a lot, but you know... If I'm behind a car at a red light and it changes to green. I let my clutch and and am instantly going 15 MPH, generally the car in front of me is still going 5.

Slightly annoying.... but I'm used to it, so I won't complain.

I did the TPS reset suggested in this Forum and find out my X is responding much better at very low RPMs. Working nicely from 2000RPM up.

Can I reset my TPS or is that done at the dealer? I do have a lot of slop in the throttle cable, I plan on adjusting it tonight.

I think I understand 08's and up can be done by yourself (in manual?) but 07 and older needs to be reset with a computer.

I've noticed that it will sometimes pop or almost choke if I chop the throttle like you would on a sportbike, but if you just get on it slow and smooth no clutch slipping is required. (In addition to the aforementioned TPS stuff if it is in need)

The high first gear does take some getting used to especially when you are behind some one at a light and you have to feather a lot. I used to do tight trail riding that required a lot of slow manuevering with clutch manipulation so that helped my learning curve. Practice practice practice!!! aka get out and ride it!!

Enjoy

Lighten up on the throttle and ride the friction point. How does it do then? It took me a while to realize that's what my '06 wanted. Before, I was accustomed to disengaging the clutch sooner, so I was lurching into traffic, bogging the motor and causing it to knock. At higher RPM's, riding the friction point would feel like you're killing your clutch, but at low RPM's, full disengagement comes soon enough, at about the same time you're ready to roll some more throttle on. Even at those low RPM's (just off idle), I almost never hear the muffler valve open up when stepping off.
