OK, so I haven't had much time to ride since I bought my 10 XT, but I do have a couple of concerns. I am hoping you guys will tell me these things will get better as the bike gets some more miles on it. It only has about 200 so far.

First, the bike has, what seems to me, a pretty bad low speed surge. I don't notice much when I am accelerating, but when I am trying to maintain a constant speed in my neighborhood or similar situations, it is bad. I am used to a carb Harley where this did not happen at all. I really don't care for it much and would like it to stop.

The second thing is that even though I have a 10, which already has the comfort kit on it, I still notice a fair bit of heat on my right ankle. It had not gotten painful, but I don't care for it much. I guess I expected less heat after all the posts about how great the comfort kit is.

I don't know, were my expectations too high? Will the surging and heat get better? Or should I just get used to it?

No, that bike will always suck. I'll trade you a 2009 1125CR with ~700 miles on it even-Steven.

Seriously, low speed surge (below 3000 RPM) is normal. It's most noticeable when the bike is cold.

Weird about the heat on your ankle- that's one place I've never experienced heat on my Uly. Unless you're in a cross-wind, I don't know why you'd feel that.

Does it surge even when at full operating temp and you have run it @ speed for 30 mins or so? The ECM may still be 'in training' mode. My 08' stumbled and jerked around for the first few thousand miles (my primary was also out of adjustment) then smoothed out pretty well. Heat? What heat? I used to get a warm inner right thigh before comfort kit install, but never an ankle. Heat is relative - much worse without the kit. Riding pants also help reduce the 'warm glow' significantly. Get it 'broke in' & report back - I think you'll find improvement.

I recall the same feeling of heat on the ankle (after installing my comfort kit) after doing some work on the Uly, and taking it out for a quick low speed spin to check what I had done.
It was then that I realized that I had my sneakers on, and not my usual boots.

The fan shroud directs all the heat down and away, but depending on your gear and speed, it may be possible to increase the heat to your ankles.

Fair trade, considering how well it works !

My '08 had that low speed surging pretty bad when I bought it new this past spring. Any constant speed below 3,000 rpm was pretty annoying. After getting the newest ECM download, it all went away...

I would think that your '10 model already has that download though...

There is a good chance that if you are just riding it around your neighborhood on a few separate occasions you may be starting to foul the plugs. I don't have the '10 model, but these things work best if fully warmed up each time out. That usually takes ten to fifteen miles. Since the FI doesn't have a choke, it is in "run richer" mode when cold.
