I am beginning to realize firsthand how much damage being associated with Harley Davidson did for Buell. Having to deal with a HD dealer for parts/accessories so far and I'm sure one day service is a total joke, I won't even bother to lament about the patrons I've encountered at the dealerships. I've looked at a few of the HD / Buell dealers now and in every single case, the Buell portion is clearly an afterthought, an extra burden the HD staff appears to have to deal with. Wall to wall HD crap ranging from lunchboxes to leather vests, and nary a Buell t-shirt in sight...

What a huge thorn in the side of Buell HD was, yet sadly, since HD owns all the patents, I think it truly is the end of Buell. : (

I believe HD did something similar to the Buell situation in the 70's. Judging from that I would guess it is over. The only reason I initially went with Buell was due to Eric Buell and his story. I did not particularly like riding a paint shaker, but I wanted to support Him and the Buell idea. I cannot say after 3 Buells and 2 Harleys I will never own another Harley, but I am leaning more towards Yamaha for future needs.

The dealer here is as good as a dealer of anything can be. The support I've received from HD has gone beyond normal business.
Buells are prominently displayed and supported.
I wish this were true for all.

I have a similar situation, Itileman. I deal with Goe HD/Buell in Angleton, Texas and they are great. Yeah, there is a lot more Harley stuff but that is what sells in big quantities. I'd do the same. The dealer supports Buell and is great for Buell customers. I still have a Harley and like it as well. I'm hoping there are a lot more dealerships like ours all over the country and a list can be made to help us on trips.

Part of the reason I'm looking elsewhere is that our dealer originally was a strong Buell dealer. Sold me my Uly, then changed ownership (from an individual owner to a corporation). Now very few Buell parts in stock, no Buells on the floor, etc. I'm sure they're happy with the latest move. Or at least not unhappy.

Even though I do/did my own maintenance, kinda nice to have someone local to talk to...these Internet personas get shabby after a while.

Doc,

I understand and that's a bummer that Chick sold out to a corporate group but I wouldn't let that come between you and Buells. It is nice to have a supportive dealer, I'm fortunate no doubt, but with your handiness, and the online access to parts, etc., you're in good shape. By the way, I grew up in the North Valley and met Chick right after he bgt. dealership rights and moved out to a tiny shop on East Central. The guy did well and I'm happy for him. Hang in there, Man.

Stuff is where you find it. The nearest BMW dealer is 2+ hours away and I live in the largest city in Montana.

Shabby? I don't believe I resemble that remark...a little disheveled, maybe.

We do 1k, 5k, tire changes, and many other services to Buells and Harleys with no appointment and while you wait. Coffee, occasional rolls while available, WIFI and big screen TV, m/c rags to read, all in the lounge.

Performance enhancements may take longer but base line dyno runs can be done free of charge.

It is up to the customer to get along with other bikers there at the time. Exhibiting a bad altitude such as wearing a chip on ones shoulder, is discouraged.

If your dealer doesn't do these things, you frequent the wrong dealership.

To be fair, I'm not knocking HD, I actually really like several of their bikes. I'm pretty low key, keep to myself kinda guy and I've just noticed an almost air of resentment towards the fact that they have had to stock Buells. I'm learning my local HD dealer isn't too good though, I encountered one guy today who was *PISSED* at them and left rubber across their entryway as he left (wow) I hear the Reno HD is killer, I'll do the ride no problem if that is the case.

We understand, Unrealtrip. I've ridden Harley's for many years, and still do, but I pick and choose my dealers. Some are very good like the one I use, 35 miles from my home. Some are not good, like the giant one ten minutes from me. It all starts with the owner and the tone they set. I hope you find a good one. Good luck. Mike

I agree with Jammer, I typically do my own maintenance, but there are 2 dealerships, I will use above any, (High Country H.D., and Greatlakes H.D. where I bought my Uly). These people are awesome, and will go above, and beyond! Right now, I'm still pissed at Harley, (i'm an owner , and rider still), would I buy another after what they did, who knows? I don't know the whole story, of why they dropped Buell like a box of rocks, but I work in a lot of BIG companies, and see the Morons they have running them. I ALWAYS wonder, " if they are making money now, how much more could they make, if they ran more efficient"? (off soapbox), There are Still dealers that are not trying to hang us out there, giving support the best they can. and we still have the badweb to get us out of trouble.

I'm on of the lucky ones here in Saint Louis having Gateway Harley/Buell (yes the Buell signage is still up) There are at least a few of the staff that are genuinely happy to still be taking care of Buell owners. They even got a fresh supply of Buell shirts and stuff in this week. But the techs, service and sales staff were very upset with the announcement. When my partner and I came in the next few days after the announcement, we had more than a few staff come up and let me know how bummed they were and to not worry that they would still be there to fully take care of us just like they always have been.

We need to get a BadWeb Buell owner/dealer list that's updated for who can offer help when out touring!!

Liberty Buell / HD in NJ loves Buells ..... they just have to sell Harleys to make money and stay in business ..... they support and promote both brands nicely

Dealers are taking their Buell signs down already? Illinois Harley Davidson In Berwyn still has the sign up, and is still pro-Buell. I have not had the occasion to stop by since the hammer fell, but their web site indicates that they will remain supportive.
