I miss my Ulysses a lot!

I want to build a 1125 Ulysses.

What will I need?

Complete Uly front end, forks, fender, fairing, handle bars, etc.
Complete Uly tail section (will it bolt on a 1125 frame?
Battery Location?
What rear shock do I use?
Steering head angle? Is there a difference angle from the 1125 and Uly?
Will that geometry be bad? Head shake at 120 mph?

You better get in line!

Anyway, getting the tail section on will be the hardest part. I plan on reusing the stock suspension as there seems to be a lack of options for the rear shock.

Cheaper to pick up a Uly, wouldn't it? Also...why not just get upright bars? Leave the rest. Isn't the main issue the rider position anyway? Fill me in...

This thread may be of interest regarding the tail swap:

He just put an XB-S tail on his 1125CR. It'll at least give you an idea of the work involved and some of the mods he made to make the S tail work. X tail may be more or less work.

Actually, if you buy a brand new 08 1125R, and all the parts new at full retail, it still will be cheaper than the MSRP of a new XT.

Ok yes I am skewing numbers in my favor, but $3999 for a new 08, vs $12,999 for the XT. Thats 8 grand to play with. I recall spec'ing out the tail section all new at something like $1200, plus if you went nuts and did the front suspension, thats $800, fairing and so a few hundred more. Plenty of money to hire someone to fab up the custom tail section brackets and foot peg/luggage stuff.

As an "adventure" bike, I don't think it would work as well as the vanilla Uly. As a freaky motard-y street bike, though, I bet it would be wicked fun. I hope you get a chance to put one together so we all find out!

hmm anyone got a Uly tailsection ?

actually, here's a legit question....are the initial tailsection pieces L0009.1AKYBQ and L0010.1AKYBQ for the Uly dimensionally the same as the ones on the 12SS (p/n L0009.1ANYT and L0010.1ANYT) and the difference only being the color?

Has anyone considered building a tail section that is mostly fuel cell, no passenger seat?

Sek, yes they are the same, but they have different holes in them. The SS one has passenger peg holes on the bottom, the Uly one has holes near the top for the middle piece. I can't recall off hand if there is holes for the Uly bags, but I don't think so.

thanks! I think the Uly brackets bolt to the tailight housing/bridge piece. You're on a roll...nice teaser pic.

Uh, the XT's discounted right now too you know.

The 1125's around here are $5500. The XT was $8000.

That only leaves you $2500 to work with. The bags alone will cost you half that.

Of course you can't find XT's hardly at all anymore.

I've got a naming convention for this beast: the Helices.

Before you get bent out of shape, just follow my reasoning below.

Buell Helices

1. The Helicon nomenclature is no-doubt derived from Hellenistic mythology, as Pegasus and Ulysses and numerous other Buell references have: think 'Helix'

2. The plural form of Helix is 'Helices'

3. The most archaic and rudimentary root of the word Helix is simply, 'something twisted'

4. If I ever get to building something like this for myself, I will definitely ride the Hell out of this Ulysses. Hell plus Ulysses equals...

Point number three is my favorite. Thread un-hijacked.
