In 1981 senior members of Harley-Davidson bought back Harley-Davidson Motor Company from AMF. Why can't Erik try to pull off the same thing with BMC. Certainly they have a factory that has all the machinery in place. East Troy and the state of Wisconsin will probably bend over backwards to keep BMC from actually closing if Erik can snap out of his depression long enough to make it happen. A stand alone innovative BMCompany with dedicated employees willing to make the necessary sacrifices with long term goals as the carrot to keep moral up can work miracles. It worked for Harley Davidson Motor Company so it can work for BMC. They have all the suppliers in place, the engineers, machinery, buildings, and they aren't trying to come up with an unproven motorcycle. Let's hope that something happens. |

Back in 81, Harley had a dealers network when they pulled this off. Not sure if Buell has one or not. I like the idea of Eric taking his product and going to work for Polaris. |

He probably is looking at his options. I don't suppose they told him about this more than a day ago. Give the guy a chance to find some money and keep the brand going. I would like to see someone with some money buy and run the company for sure. |

I hope Eric's hands aren't tied by HD. I bet in today's world of financing, it's cheaper for HD to dump the business and take the tax write off then it is to sell it, even if they sell it for no money. I was reading the statements and I think I saw HD just got hit with something that caused their tax rate to go up to 60% this quarter. what about all the good money after bad we threw at Chrysler and GM this year. There has to be a way to get money to continue In his video he did say he would continue with HD. But I believe with his Daytona win, his passion is stronger then ever! Oddly enough, I don't think you can blame that on Obama. It appears to be due to the acquisition of MV Agusta: "Income Tax Rate The Company's third-quarter effective income tax rate was 61.8 percent compared to 38.2 percent in the same quarter last year. This increase was due primarily to the tax implications of MV Agusta, including the non-deductible write down of goodwill, and the impact of reduced Company earnings." |

It's no wonder that Harley shi.t canned James Ziemer. I have never read anything that made sense of purchasing MV Agusta. Ziemer must of had a revelation while taking a good one in the Harley john. |

Now that I'm approaching 50 I spend more time rebuilding old bikes and looking at them much more closely in terms of what they meant when they were introduced and what the mean to me now. I regret selling every single bike I ever owned and if I had all of them today (probably 50-75 bikes) they would be worth a fortune. I am saddened by the closure of Buell but I see the glass as half full. I am sorry so many people will miss the opportunity to ride what I consider an awesome motorcycle. With that being said I am elated that as time goes on my Buell will become even more unique and rare than ever. It's my Uly and it will never be for sale nor will I ever get tired of telling the story of Buell to anyone that asks. The Uly is the perfect bike for me and I will not make the same mistake I made with the other bikes that I have enjoyed over the years. the Uly is staying in the family for good! |

"effective income tax rate was 61.8 percent compared to 38.2 percent in the same quarter last year. This increase was due primarily to the tax implications of MV Agusta" That and the $111 million loss for Harley Financial, that's a lot of bad loans. } |
