Had a reputable local shop change my rear tire and they buggered the finish on the pulley side of the wheel. Its just cosmetic but it looks like hell. Anyone had any experience repairing them? I'm guessing they're powdercoated? |

Yes, they're powdercoated. You can get touch up paint from Buell that matches pretty well. I think if you took the time to wet sand and polish the touch ups you could make it look pretty good. (Message edited by Hughlysses on October 14, 2009) |

They messed it up and you're fixing it? I've been doing that to my Uly since six months after I bought it.... |

Back in the eighties I had a BMW K100RS and had a new rear tire put on by the dealer. When I got it back it looked like they used a square shafted screw driver to get the tire off. A huge gouge in my rim. I bitched about it and the service manager says, "what do you want me to do about it" and I said, "I want a new wheel". We ended up nose to nose and red faced but I got a new wheel. Don't put up with that crap, they screw it up, they replace it. If they're too cheap to get good help then it's their problem! |

I've had my rims scratched or scarred three times here in Arizona, the first time, the dealership just shrugged, and apoligized, saying, "well it was a new kid mounting the tires, sorry 'bout that". The second time was a totally different experience, the service manager pulled both rims, ('98 S1W with Nuclear Blue wheels) and sent them out to get powder coated. It took two weeks because he sent them back because we was not satisfied with the color match when he first got them in. I would take my bike to that man anytime, he stood BEHIND his service departments work. The third time, different shop once again, I had to bitch up a storm to get them to repair the damage, this time the shop opted to just replace the wheel with a new one. You should NEVER have to pay out of your own pocket for someone else's ignorance. When you leave your bike at ANY shop, it is their responsibility to do the work in a professional manner, and return the bike to you in the same, or better condition than when you left it. |

It seems the powdercoat doesn't bond well to the wheels for some reason. I change my own tires, use rim protectors, and still had a small section of paint "flake" off. |

Thanks all. Pretty much every shop around here has a disclaimer for changing moto tires. To me, this just looks pretty dang reckless-------its about a 13 or so inch swipe right off the outside edge the rim. I'll be taking it back by there to show the guy but I'm pretty much stuck. Needless to say I won't be using that shop again. I could've drove over the bead with a truck and done less damage. |
