Midnightrider

2006 Uly, Midnight Black. So far I've painted the hepco-becker hard bags, footpegs, bar end weights and axle sliders black. Black windscreen too. My last bike was a yellow 99X1 Lightning. Got a yellow helmet to match. I wasn't really fond of the color - but it sure was visible.
So when I bought the Uly I immediately went for the black over the orange. Besides the fact that everyone knows black is faster, black is just "cooler" than orange. Or yellow.

Lately though, every time I see a yellow bike on the road one thought keeps coming to mind - "Wow - he sure is visible!" Not as cool as black, but definitely more visible

Now I'm asking myself how "cool" is it to be found in a mangled heap by the side of the road 'cuz some cager didn't see you and your blacked out bike?

I can't get these thoughts out of my head. Help!

Lights go well with black, especially if they're chrome. Or, I'll trade you my red plastics for your blacks.

3M black reflective decals can be applied to your bags. Reflect back as bright white.

I've also used reflective pinstriping on just about anything I can find. 1/8" pinstriping is nice and subtle until light hits it...one helmet has blue and silver on it, the other red and silver; my saddlebags have red; getting ready to get some orange so I can 'outline' my orange bodywork. I forget where, but I found the stuff online.

....or you could come by our shop and see the '10 UlyX we have in stock, in yellow. I really like it. : )

My wife had a yellow XB9S. It was a great looking bike and as you said could really be seen. Wish my Black Uly was that color. I vote for a color change followed by new gear to match!

Maybe this is a good place to ask this question. When I look in the Buell Parts and Acc book, I see intake covers for firebolt/lightning. Is that the correct cover for my Ulysses?

I wanted Yellow, but when buying used bikes, color is not a deciding factor.

My black is much to fast to me. Plus I am a fanatic about being seen. I even wear a high visibility vest over my riding jacket.

When I walk in my local dealer they announce "can you see me now!"

If I remember the 'Hurt' report correctly - In the 'head on' mode bike color doesn't really matter much - the lights & helmet/jacket color do. From the side view of course, color does count. I wear a hiviz vest over my Cortech jacket. From my experience, regardless of color scheme, people will still turn left in front of you... I think it's a requirement in some places.

Just crazy glue a strobe light to your helmet and plug it in to the Uly's power outlet. Now you can be visible and faster. Win-Win!

Oh, and love that white, Uly Wolfridgerider!

I like the strobe light idea. They put them (in white) on top of school buses here in MD...why not put one on / under a motorcycle?

Hmmm....

And to answer the question posed by Towpro - yes, an airbox cover is an airbox cover, for all XBs and 1125s. The only thing really Uly-specific is the flyscreen.

Ratbuell,

I once wired a small strobe I had bought from radio shack (mounted just above my brake light) on my dual sport to flicker when the brakes were applied. The brake lights were pretty dirty after my favorite rides and were difficult to see during the day, and I had nearly been rear ended twice.

I have one of these mounted under the tourpak on my bagger and will soon mount one to the fender of the XT. It is an attention getter. I'm using the standard Ghost, but the stop/turn/tail would be nice too. ~$100

in MD to can light our bikes up like a Christmas tree as long as they are not flashing or blue.

I have though about adding a lot of amber lights and having them change over to red when i hit the brakes.

The strobe light idea sounds great until you find yourself responsible for a 7 car pile-up due to the driver behind you going into a seizure...

3M tape FTW.

The mentally defective shouldn't be driving any way.

BTW I ride in a big red vehicle with strobes all over it for a living. Haven't caused any wrecks yet. Well.......maybe just once and strobes had nothing to do with it.
