If you are looking to buy a ULY then the 06/07 ULYs are the best because you get the most bang for the buck. I certainly don't begrudge anyone paying for a 2010 but you can get a bagged out 06/07 for about 1/2 the moola. My son is so stoked over his new-to-him 07'. Heck it looks brand new and with the benefit of being already broken in. Now he wants me to make him an Oil Temp Dipstick. Probably should pull the wheels and check the condition of all the bearings. Oil change also. We already shortened the front blinkers.

Yep the 06's are best bang for the buck, but the 08+ are sweet. : )

i have to agree...
having ridden over 200mls on an 09 at the Buell Off-road adventure a few days ago and today i rode my 06 - i must say the power comes on much harder on the 06 than on the 09...
The 09 engine is smoother, but that my 06 also has got the remus which make is sound soo much better...

anyway, long story short - older ones are faster!

Older bikes are better because they are more experienced and know how to please.

Actually the older ones are slower, they have a lower redline, and due to the inferior oiling system they are less likely to last as long as a newer bike, especially if ridden hard. Oh, and on a newer bike you can use the improved steering to swerve around the 06 corpse that is sitting in the road with toasted bearings and cupped front tire. : )

I remember demoing an 08' and couldn't believe how weak it felt taking off from a stop. It was out at Rapid City, probably Aug 07'. The Buell folks said it was because of a new throttle cable cam on the throttle body. It made it feel anemic compared to what I am used to on my 06. Mine just hammers away off idle. Apparently you have to twist the throttle further on the 08' to take off from idle. I didn't like that one bit. Do they still take off like that??

Maybe Buell is trying to replace the Blast in the Rider's Edge BRC.

06 rules!

I rode an 08 across Alaska last year, and will gladly keep my 06.

I'm talking about the very limited edition, with 07 trees, a great eeprom and fuel map that allows for much cooler running with no stumble and increased power with higher redline, ram air and catch can to keep the intake clean, German wheel bearings, springy thingy for the belt, supermoto front fender that keeps the mud off the headlights, and the original after market RSS which is good for 10 rice horsepower, rox risers, killer headlights, tall windshield and tons of other goodies. Comfortable, upright and fast with a compliant suspension. No problems with lubrication at 7500 rpm yet.

I have nothing against the newer bikes but like Brother EG said you will get the best bang for the buck with an 06/07.

There are plenty of mods that one can perform for little or nothing that makes quite a big difference in driveability and power. Things that can't be done (yet) on the 08 and up ECM.

These are tough times and I see nothing from the new uly's worthy of upgrading my paid for and customized 06.

Still waiting on a good set of knobbies and maybe an XB9 primary conversion. Until then it's a buck fourtyfive by the flick of the wrist on blacktop and very smooth on weekend rides.

Long live the oohsixes baby!

Some one has to buy the new one's so those of us who buy used can have a supply of bikes to buy and to keep Buell in business.
Last new bike I bought was a left over 1980 Yamaha XT250.

The 2008 bikes were originally sold with crappy fuel mapping.
after a reflash, mine grunts off the line nicely.

Like 'Natex'said - the original mapping was a herky jerky set of instructions. The pre comfort kit reflash took care of that. You do have to twist the throttle about 20* more than you think is at the 'stops' - (almost requires a double articulated wrist) to get to it's full potential. I test drove an orange 07, bought a fast black 08. (>: It's amazing what 'divides' us - as if we didn't have enough adversity just being Buell owners. We need the very few of us minority Uly owners (we're still under 10,000 world wide - about the same # of 1200GS's in Seattle) to stick together, or the 2010 owners will flaunt their new wheel / bearings at us.

It's most likely a bunch of 06 07 riders trying to raise their trade in value for the new 2010 model they're lusting after!!

I wonder if the newer ones 'catch up' when they get broken in? Anybody had both for a while?

Rocket, me and Ulynut proved that Hero Blue is the fastest. Ulynut was on his 06 Black, I was on my 06 Hero Blue, and he pulled away from a stoplight fast. Needless to say, I was able to pass him a few seconds later on one wheel with no effort. When we came to the next light he looked at me like I was running NOS or something. : )

Never know what you'll see in the East Village late at night . . . taken about an hour ago . . .
