North Platte, NE had 17 inches of snow yesterday. We had 3 to 4 inches here in the Omaha, NE area. Very early for this crapola.

Was trying to make it back to Colorado Springs, across Kansas. The 29 degree temps were not the problem.... It was the ice.. So I am holed up in Ness City hoping for no ice tomorrow...

Dennis, it was suppose to get to 60 today however, It is 26 in Fountain.

We just talked to some friends at Lake George and it was 60 there, (8K feet) go figure. Forecast for tomorrow is 34 the low and 59 the high. Safe travels getting home.

It was 29 at my house this morning when I left for work. There's snow in the forecast for tonight. I really need to invest in some heated gear

Dennis, that sure is an ugly screen but it's doing it's job and when it comes to winter riding, I'll take results over looks anytime.

I don't ride when the temperature falls below freezing. Not because of the cold but I'm afraid of hitting some black ice.

I rode snowmobiles for years and I can dress to keep warm but I can't defend against ice when on two wheels.

You right about the ugly screen, and it does a good job in the winter. I change back to the uly touring screen in the Spring/Summer.

The weather really turned nasty yesterday, so when the ice started forming on the bridges I looked for a place to bail out. This morning it started out at 38 and soon dropped to 31 with ice starting to form again. I decide to head south, and within 10 miles the temps rose, the moister stopped and I had a dry ride the 200 miles back to the Springs.

Electric vest and the heated grips kept me warm, an the frog togs to keep the moisture out.

The weather really backed up on me, the forecasters missed this one which really proved challenging. I hatted ice when I was piloting aircraft, and hate ice when I am on the motorcycle.

Roger that . . . I was in a Piper Saratoga over Chanute, KS one day and stated picking up light icing on the leading edge.

I was asking KCATC to either go up or down . . . as I waited what I'm sure was VERY light ice started to look like piles in my minds eye.

After a bit they took me up 1,000 and when I broke out into the the sunshine I thought the world was coming to an end . . . ever heard the sound of ice leaving a wing and hitting an Aluminum T-tail? . . . yikes.

Western Kansas can get real ugly real fast. I recall, and it's likely been about 15 years ago, a couple leaving Topeka, guy was a top athlete, heading to Denver. Weather went down and they tried to drive through it. Both found dead in the car the following morning. I learned to respect Kansas weather after trying to outrun a tornado between Hutchinson and Salina.

LOL!...try explaining to your Jetstream 32 and Jetstream 41 passengers that the ice they hear slinging off the props and slamming into the side of the fuselage won't cause a problem : )

That'd be a tough sell . . . . I'm not the natural aviator that some of you guys are and I vaguely remember it sounding like 3/4 gravel being fired toward a wall of trash can lids!

: )

. . . . and of course, as this is happening . . . all those "even a 1/16" can result in loss of lift, it's not the weight it's the change in the shape of the wing" lectures. Course . . if I were at the controls of a Jetstream there'd be a whole new group of problems.

CPilot: is that a California scientific shield?
I was thinking of getting one.
Does it affect your hands?
How is it on the superslab?

14F in Spokane WA yesterday morning. Record lows for this time of year. I am usually good to 40F.

For those of you that like to ride when the temperature dips I would suggest getting a pair of these.

The combo of these and my polly heaters on the 07 work really well.
