i'm the proud owner of a new Blue 2009 (born Dec 08) XB12X. I lurked around here for several months off and on and have to thank you all for the information. I've been debating various bikes to go along with my Road King, finally locked in on the Uly and got a great deal. I had a line on a XP but the dealer folded - glad I hadn't given them a deposit. I've quickly fallen in love with the bike, love the engine and torque. The thing is just a hoot to ride.  Let the farkeling begin - the oil cooler has a new Touratech cover, having that sticking out there bothered me. I also got a deal on a XT windscreen installed it and noticed the reduction in buffeting. On the recommendation of another Uly owner I added the spoilers to the handscreens. I'm still using the recommended suspension setting for my weight and don't have the rectum trained enough to notice small tweaks. I'll probably stiffen up the forks to reduce the dive slightly. Now a couple of questions that a search didn't answer: Are there any larger diameter grips that work with the standard heaters? How the heck does the Park feature for turning the lights on work? My key refuses to turn past the lock indicator. I've pushed and wiggled the key but it won't go that way. I will be installing the Comfort Kit in a day or two and the Outdoorsman Bags are on order and installation is part of the purchase. Thanks and appreciate the advice! How the heck does the Park feature for turning the lights on work? My key refuses to turn past the lock indicator. I've pushed and wiggled the key but it won't go that way. May be a silly question, but is the steering all the way to the left? Is it twisting far enough to lock the steering and pull the key out? (Message edited by dentguy on October 09, 2009) | ||

No, the heated elements are built into the rubber grips. You would have to go to an aftermarket heater setup. | ||

I had been able to lock the forks and remove the key and as a new owner there's not a silly question. Heck I RTFM as soon as I got home.  I went out to the garage for another look and wiggled the fork around hard left, key still didn't move. I decided to rotate the fork right (back to straight) almost to the lock point and was able to rotate the key. Lights came right on! Thanks so much. | ||

At least one person says they've tried Grip Puppies: http://www.casporttouring.com/optimizer/product/GP SMALL.html The report said they didn't affect the heat from the handgrips. I don't remember anymore whether the grips in question were Buell's or aftermarket, maybe because the bike was make before the heated grips came with it. I just got mine in while my bike was in the shop, so I haven't had a chance to try them out yet - or even put them on. Maybe this weekend. Since my bike's a blue '09 too, the heated grips are the stock ones. I'll know soon... | ||

I use the grip puppies on my BMW heated grips and they work fine. It just takes a little longer to heat up the extra mass. They're only $9.50 shipped so if you don't like them you haven't lost much. | ||

I use the thick gel grips from American Sportbike along with an after-market heated grip kit from them .. my 06 did'nt come with the heated grips. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5662.html | ||

Congrats on the new X. I traded my 03 Road King for an 09 XT & couldn't be happier. You will probably want to modify the headlights if you plan on any night riding. Also, auxillary lighting is good to have. | ||

Congrats on the new X. I traded my 03 Road King for an 09 XT & couldn't be happier. I had been saving for a new bike to replace my 03 Road King or for something different like a GS800 or X. I had thoughts about an Ultra especially after the new Limited was announced. I rode one a couple of weekends ago and decided I just liked the open feel of the Road King. The Limited was beautiful, smooth, and rode really nice. I thought about it and just couldn't get excited about selling one Tourer for another, even it was a real upgrade. I decided to pursue the Uly, gave the Beemer deal a serious shot at price comparison which they couldn't do and bought the X and I still hung onto the Road King. I rode the King just over 200 miles Saturday and the same amount on the X today which was my first longish ride. After about 30 minutes on the X I realized that I made the right call. The bike is awesome - great on the slab at 70, fun in the twisty's, surefooted on asphalt back roads, and still versatile enough to handle the gravel or packed dirt roads that I have near my house - it's a much better fit than I thought. I got the warm fuzzies this morning after finding that I was really comfortable on the bike and how much I enjoyed the X after one week of riding. | ||

+1 on the Grip Puppies. I like the feel of the 1 inch bars on my HD's, funny I used to hate them. Now I hate the tiny feel of 7/8ths bars and grips. I put the grip puppies on my KLR and they do make quite a difference. I'm gonna put a set on the XT. | ||

2track - just wait until you throw some serious miles on the Uly over a day. I road mine to Colorado this summer and did a 14 hour straight shot over nearly 800 miles, most of it two lane through the Rockies. Felt great when I was done. The Old King:  | ||
