I'm making up a tool kit to carry with me. So for in doing my own wrenching everything except battery terminal bolts are SAE. Battery aside, is everything SAE or are there other metric sizes somewhere?

There's quite a bit of metric. This set of tools was suggested for tube framed Buells on "the X-1 Files" site (http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/Marriott/x1/). It's probably not too far off for a Uly:

You can fit an impressive amount of tools under the seat. You can get a tool bag anywhere that has a good selection of hiking bags... to find one that fits perfectly look for something that is approx. 10in x 6in x 3in . Here's my current kit...

* Ratchet, extension, multi-tipped screwdriver
* Sockets and wrenches... 8mm, 10mm,12mm, 14mm, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4
* 22mm wrench (O2 sensor), custom made shock tool (for new shock) 60mm/52mm
* 36mm bicycle headset wrench & 36mm socket for rear axle, 15/16 socket for front axle
* Hex sockets 5mm, 3/16, 5/32, 1/4 ; full set of English & Metric hex keys

* 5/8 sparkplug socket, 2 spare sparkplugs, gapping gauge
* 8inch adjustable, needle nose vise grip
* Various electrical ends, wire, electrical tape, cable ties, spare fuses, spare exhaust stud locknuts
* 2 tie down straps

For an XB, you'd also want a universal joint for the ratchet (use to get rear spark plug out). Socket sizes for axles are different, you don't need the tool for adjusting the shock, and you definitely need some Torx bits. The tool kit that comes with the bike provides a good starter tool kit.

Buy the factory tool kit, 94685-03Y $99.95. Worth the money. Has everything you need in a nice roll that fit under the seat.

+1 on the factory tool kit. Just as a test, I started doing all of my maintenance with just the kit to see if it really had every tool you need, and I literally didn't need any other tools to do everything on the bike (except remove the fork caps)!

There is metric stuff on the bike. The hanger and slider pins for the brake calipers comes to mind.

Space is always at a premium. What I did when I was making a tool kit to go across the country was to change the belt and note every tool that I required. Then I added a few extra, like a pair of vice grips, which can be used as a replacement lever should one break.

That tool kit sounds right.
How large is it?
I have my cycle pump and tire plug kit under my set now. not too much more space under there.
Any pics of the bag or something?

I have the toolkit and highly recommend it. It fits under the seat for me, but I carry the pump in the side case. I don't think you could make both fit unless you had a small pump. One addition I made to the kit was a flex handle socket drive. If you ever need to get the wheel loose in the field you're going to need it. Thirty bucks at sears.. It just fits under the seat...if it were an inch longer it wouldn't.

Anyone happen to know who makes the tools in the Buell kit?

I'll have to check but between my tools and the tools I inherited from my dad I should have at least 2 of everything except the case.

If you have lots of tools then you might just need one of these. It's what I got and found the quality excellent. I have some of her bags too and they work as advertised. Here's a link:
