I've been mulling over the idea of trading in my 2007 Uly (with full bags, and almost every touratech accessory, HID, etc.) for a 1125CR. I have a 2009 BMW RT that I could use for touring and two up. I don't know, am I crazy for thinking of doing this? Wayne | ||

I noticed that based on the NADA value.  It's just an idea I'm mulling over at the moment. Since the Uly is paid for, I'm too concerned about the trade-in value, obviously it's important to some extent, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if the difference to pick up the CR was just a couple of thousand. I'm just not sure the CR is the right swap for me (although I lust after one). | ||

The height is just way too low. Your knees will be in your chest. I felt like I was on a tricycle. I literally didn't feel safe driving it. I'm 6'1" | ||

When I did the demo rides I thought the 1125r was way more comfortable than the cr. One day soon, hopefully. | ||

What they need is an 1125Rs and 1125CRs. I am 6ft and rode the CR with taller bars.... with a little adjustment in the footpegs it be fine. | ||

I rode 1000 miles down to Georgia from NY on my CR. It was easier and more comfortable than either my Uly or my SS/Uly. Oh, and I just slaughtered the Dragon today. Best bike I have ever owned hands down. I have no desire to get my Uly/ss fixed anymore. I might just put it back together and then push it off a cliff. The CR does everything that the Uly/ss would do, and does it better. | ||

My Zumo decided to send me down a "shortcut" today. I almost got ran over by some crazy redneck in a lifted F350. Quite interesting, if I put Scorpion Syncs on I don't see it being any worse than my Uly was. The Diablo's don't like the slick stuff  | ||

I'm too concerned about the trade-in value, obviously it's important to some extent, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if the difference to pick up the CR was just a couple of thousand. if you could pick-up a new 1125CR for a couple of thousand, I'd say do it but I'm thinking it would be more like five thousand. I know someone who traded a 2006 XB12X and got only $3000.00 on a trade in of a perfectly good motorcycle. I've also been watching them sell, or try to sell on E-Bay and not get an offer at all. The best thing you can do with your bike is JUST RIDE IT!!! I'm certainly not getting rid of mine. I also test rode a 1125CR and didn't like it! Only rode it 8 miles and took it back to the dealer. I had to stop once because of a leg cramp. I was happy when I got back to the dealer. Maybe with the Uly lower pegs and the higher bars it might not be so bad but I didn't care for it at all. Have you seen the 1125R with the new lowers on it yet? That sure is a nice looking bike. The lowers really make that bike sharp! But still not for me, I'm too old and can't ride like that. | ||

I was able to put 400+ miles on a CR with the clubmans and loved almost every minute of it. The mirrors are horrible and it rained one of the two days. It kicks up water all over your back but the mini-cowl oddly enough kept my front dry. I am 6'1" and have a bum hip, the XR was horrible for hip pain and I figured the CR would be just as bad.... maybe I was having 2 good days. The 1125 power plant is hard not to like and the vacuum clutch is awesome and oh yeah 6 speed. the trade in value is disheartening to say the least. can you have too many bikes in the barn??? I would see what they offer you first... oh yeah and test ride the thing... wait, get the offer first and then if reasonable ride it... if not don't tempt yourself.... uly is fire road, gravel road capable while the BMW and CR really aren't unless you like Froggy and set it up so. I'm of the impression that just about any standard motorcycle is fire and gravel road capable after last week's ride. I was exploring some back roads of NH last week with a group that consisted of a Uly, V-Strom, 1150r and 2 KLRs. The Uly and 1150r were out in front on gravel, dirt and street. Some of the dirt roads were steep and deeply rutted, but the rider on the 1150r bounced through it all. As for the Uly and dirt - all it really offers is a bit more ground clearance. | ||

Well, I went into the dealer today, talked numbers. Nice numbers for the 1125CR, but not so nice on the trade-in, so I think I'm going to skip trading in the Uly. In fact, I might still buy the CR, but I would do it outright and not worry about the trade-in. Wayne | ||

The Uly 1125 can't be far away  ......... should be worth waiting for. I've ridden CR & R on tracks and road and of course they engine/motor is fantastic but I opted for a 1203 as has more character & better mileage. | ||

Saying that "as for the Uly and dirt - all it really offers is a bit more ground clearance" is like saying "as for sport bikes, all they really offer is a bit less weight". As if ground clearance is some kind of trivial aspect of a bike that will be ridden on unimproved roads. But even that short-sighted little characterization of the Uly is inaccurate. An extra 30% ground clearance is not "a bit more"; it is significantly more ground clearance. In addition the Buell Ulysses also offers a lot more suspension travel, an engine that performs exceptionally at low speeds, and ergonomics fitting for its mission. I own a Buell Cyclone and a Uly. I've ridden both and other large street bikes on unimproved roads and even off-road. There is no comparison. The Uly is by far the superior motorcycle. I use to own a M2 Cyclone and then traded it for a Ulysses. As much as I liked the Cyclone, the Ulysses is a far superior all round motorcycle. One time I took my Cyclone out in the grass and was trying to climb a small hill, it was spinning out of control and I almost lost it! I knew never to ride that motorcycle off the pavement again. |
