I just wanted to post something positive for once. It seems like most of the posts tend to be about problems or issues, because those are the things that get us the most emotional and because it is those issues that we need help on. However, when something good happens we keep it to ourselves. So...I bought a used Garmin 2720 off ebay. I received it yesterday. It had a pretty old map set on it, so I went to the Garmin web site and registered the unit intending to buy the latest maps. When I registered the unit, however, Garmin told me I qualified for a free map update. I don't know why, but I gladly accepted it. I did have issues getting the new map loaded into the GPS, however. It turned out my GPS had old operating software, so at the end of the upload to the GPS, I received an error message. I went back to the Garmin website and downloaded the latest operating software and uploaded that, then loaded the map. This whole process took quite a while, but it didn't cost me a cent and now I have a GPS with the latest maps and operating software. I plugged it into my Garmin motorcyle mount and it works like a champ. So, if you want a good GPS at a discount price don't be scared of a used 26xx or 27xx unit. I'll be testing it out next week on the way to/from and around North Carolina. I'll let you guys know how it does.

Good call on the positive post. I was just thinking about how much I love the triple tail system on the Uly and how I can't imagine living without it now. Very versatile.

Great service and product backing from DEI.
I have some DEI heat wrap that didn't hold up.
Here's the response I received from contacting them via their web site:

Fresh 2” x 50’ roll and ties on the way.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I've been shown that same level of class by RAM mounts (for GPS's) and by Cometic gaskets.

Great thread by the way!

I've previously shared my Garmin experience . . . but I love a positive post so I'll repeat it in abbreviated form.

Getting in truck . . . windshield mount was unattached while I was cleaning windshield . . . Nuvi mount dropped down between open door and body panel . . I (stupidly) didn't see it . . . jumped out. . . . slammed door . . crushed entire mount.

Part not listed on Garmin website.

Called Olathe.

Explained.

Response: "the new one is on the over via express today".

Idiot: "how do I pay?"

Garmin: "it's free"

Idiot: "No need for that . . . . I'm happy to pay, it was my fault . . I am a total idiot".

Garmin: "many of our customers are idiots and so are many of us . . don't worry about it, it's on us".

So . . . . what did I do . . . yep, went out an bought a new Zumo 550 that afternoon.

OK, I'll contrast the fantastic Garmin customer service with Tom-tom’s not so good. My wife bought me a TT 920T which was their top of the line at the time. It came with a coupon code for free map updates for one year. Waited a couple of months and went to update my maps. Coupon code did not work. Called TT and was told I had to mail them my receipt to get a map update. Wife lost receipt. Sorry... we can't help you. But I have the coupon, sorry we need the receipt.
A few months later bought the maps downloaded them and the new firmware. My TT locked up and will not connect any longer to the computer. Another call to TT support, sorry.. send it in for warranty. Over a year old now? Ohh you’re out of luck then.
Buying a Garmin next time.

My Riding buddy has the Buell Zumo on his Uly - the screen is to small. Says can't read it while riding. I got a GPSmap 276C for the larger screen. It also has a Volt Meter built in. Third Garmin never any issues.

The Buell Zumo is the Zumo 550 with a fancy sticker

Oh, it comes preloaded with the dealers I assume.

Garmin is awesome, they replaced under warranty my broken Zumo 550, it was about 4 months out of warranty.
