My flawlessly running, religiously maintained 09 Uly, now with 12,000 miles is on the blink. If anyone has any ideas on what might be causing this, I’d be grateful for any input.
The problem surfaces pretty much immediately while on a 300 mile ride last weekend. Suddenly, when stopped and idling at a stop light, the engine began running very rough, the engine light came on and it started to die. I was able to get the Rs back up with the throttle, but at idle, the engine light comes on and it wants to die. It doesn’t seem to have the problem when the engine is cold and at start up, but after it reached full operating temperature, the problem persists without exception.
The bike is still under warranty, so I will be taking it to the dealer this weekend, but for the sake of my own education, I’d appreciate thoughts from anyone with knowledge or experience in these matters.

Bad fuel? I got a tank of lousy gas down in NC on my way to the Gap in July. My symptoms were similar. Cleared up over the next few tanks.

I try to run only Sunoco Ultra 93 in mine now when I can get it. My theory is that Sunoco sells enough of it to hotrodders to keep the tanks fresh.

My master tech, who rides a Buell, says that if the bike is idling roughly due to a miss that the bike will throw a "lack of combustion" code. This could be any number of things such as a plugged/bad/leaking fuel injector, bad plug wire, bad coil, lose wire in the ignition system, fuel pressure, etc. The best thing to do is determine what code is in the system and start from there. We've seen several bikes, not 09's, that have developed fuel pressure issues at full operating temp that aren't present at start up or cold running. If you can determine the code, I can tell you what it is. An engine code generally means that it is electrical/electronic in origin.

Thanks for the input. The fuell pressure thing sounds like a possibility. The symptoms seem to jive with the logic of that. For now I'm going to take advantage of my warranty and take it to the dealer. Fortunately I have a good one here, but any education about such problems I can acquire now will be of great help when I no longer have the luxury of a warranty.

Hmm, I didn't know my first attempt actually posted. Sometimes I make posts from work where I'm on a Citrix thin-client. Time to time my posts seem to disappear into cyber space and not show up in the list until a time much later. It appears to have happened again and I reposted before my original post appeared. It also seems that my client displays old pages even after I have refreshed and I need to reopen the browser and Bad web to get the current page, so I often don't know if my post made it through of not.

It does sound like bad intake seals. Did you try something as simple as resetting the tps?

Well, the dealer's performed their diagnosis and they say it's the Throttle Position Sensor. The code they pulled was "P0122", which is, I guess, the code for a bad TPS. We'll see how things are when I get it back.
Also, thanks to all of you for your input. This is the first bike I've owned that didn't have carburetors, so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to ECM's engine codes, and the like. I appreciate the education.
