Don't forget history. In June of 1981 Harley was saved from extinction by a core group of executives that apparently cared deeply about Harley Davidson Motorcycles. http://www.nthog.com/index.php?option=com_content& view=article&id=7&Itemid=19

They have kind of lost their way the past few years because of the way publicly traded companies need to satisfy the shareholders. They will be be fine but need to get more lean and mean and get back to worrying more about the bikes and the customers and less about the shareholders (I'm one since 1987). Us shareholder only profit when the company is taking care of the customers properly.

Enter BMC. As I see it, Buell will weather the storm so long as they stay focused and worry less about expansion and more about keeping current Buell riders on Buells so that the faithful will continue spreading the word. Improvement and innovation is key, so keep doing things that the others will eventually be forced to copy.

Many of us have met Erik Buell and believe him to really care about the bikes his name is on. We ride hundreds and some ride thousands of miles to Homecoming every year, not to worship at Erik's feet but because we care about all things Buell. It's the same for those that love Harleys. We don't give a rat's as.s about all the intricacies of who's pulling the strings because of Harley ownership. What we don't want is to have smoke blown up our asse.s by Erik's personal friends and administrators of this website. We don't have to worship to love the bikes so please give us some credit once in awhile.

wow. I thought buying my first Buell I'd be done with all the worry warts! Apparently, this paranoia isn't only reserved for BMW owners!

Bottom line, Buell is still here, aren't they? Are they going anywhere? Maybe, Maybe not. Do you, as an individual have any control over whether they go out of business? Not really. The best thing to do is what Ratbuell suggested and continue supporting the co. any way you can. Buy a bike. Buy a part. Buy a t-shirt. Sticker. Whatever.

Bottom line, noone in this thread really knows what happens behind closed doors at Buell or Harley. Absolute worst case scenario, we all have trouble obtaining parts for awhile until we can't fix the bikes anymore, and, we move on. That's a tough pill to swallow, I realize, but, hey, that's life. We are still talking about a vehicle that none of us truly NEED! This isn't a work truck we depend on to make a living, or, surgical instruments to perform a delicate operation.

Yeah, if Buell shut down permanantly, I'd be really bumbed. I'm loving my first Buell that I've owned all of 10 days now, but, life would go on. In the end none of this really matters all that much, since Buell is probably not going anywhere anytime soon. Or, maybe, someone else will back them getting out from under the Harley umbrella. I'd love to see them in multi-dealers. I just don't relate at all to Harley Davidson, but, that's part of the price of admission currently. It'd be nice to see Buell sold next to bikes like Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Triumph, KTM and BMW.

Quit worrying. Keep riding.

Dillon Brothers HD/Buell of Omaha, NE also just opened a multi-brand dealership right next door. They sell all the major jap brand bikes. They have new 2008 1125R displayed there with a price tag of $7995. All other Buells are next door in their HD/Buell building.

Good points, all.

Jim - my sentiments exactly. Thanks for taking the time to articulate it.

""Boy, what a pissing match. This thread has gone from bad to hopeless.""

I don’t see that at all – lots of differing (impassioned) opinions here, of course, but
with everyone treating each other with respect.

Besides the nut-n-bolts stuff, isn’t that what these forums are for?

Nice, Blake.

I got your troll hangin, boy.

Are you a stand in for Ft_basturd?

I was making a point about corporate america. However, I'm sure you misconstrued it to be a dig against your hero.

You keep sh*tting on me on these threads and you're going to get my rancor up. I've been playing nice so far in response to your feeble quips.

I've not read the entire thread (pointless really).

But you DO know it's Blake's house, right?

He runs the place, and has the right to do what he wants, to who he wants, and if ya don't like it, then there is the "Buelletin Board" forum.

Be nice to Blake. Say "yes sir", "please", and "thank you". Be a good house guest. : )

Just my two cents, but this thread is pretty ridiculous. Buell isn't going anywhere soon. Further down the line we American made types probably should collectively get our acts together, but that's another topic. As far as hero worship, I just don't see it. Eric Buell should be respected and emulated in the sense that he made something out of nothing; is that not the American dream? Beyond that, it's a personal preference and we're all different (thank god).

If by "playing nice" you mean "spouting falsehoods and nonsense", then I guess I can agree.

Honorable folks can admit when they are wrong.

Dishonorable types go on ad nauseum prevaricating and defending and getting their rancor up.

That course won't work well here.

Chad,

I can take the heat amigo. No need for anyone to give me any special due here. I certainly don't expect to be treated any more respectfully than anyone else.

Johnboy777:

""This argument that you guys are coming up with is like
saying General Motors doesn’t make Pontiacs … Pontiac makes Pontiacs.

Well, when GM decided to stop making Pontiacs, it wasn’t
Pontiac making that decision, was it?

HD controls every aspect of Buell; regardless of the amount of latitude
they've given Buell, they still completely control it.

If HD ever decides to stop making Buells, then they will, regardless of what anyone at Buell says""

Funny - I remember taking a lot of grief over this statement, in this thread.
