Was a lurker here on the site, until I bought my XP this last weekend! The bike is fantastic, and great for 2-up riding with my 8y/o daughter. I have one concern though. At stoplights with her on the back, the rear suspension is kind of bouncy. This led me to attempt to adjust the knob for rear suspension- but the darn thing will not turn more than a quarter inch. Is seems to be stuck solid in both directions. DOes anyone have an idea what to do? I am pretty sure this isn't right! Thanks! | ||

Congrats on your police Uly. The rear pre-load suspension knob should turn at least 12 turns. If it's bouncy with her on the back, I'd guess it's completely backed off. If the knob hasn't been adjusted in a while, or if it's completely backed off, it can be pretty hard to start turning. It should turn clockwise if you really apply some effort. If you still can't get it to budge, that's what a warranty's for. BTW- it makes a BIG difference in the handling of the bike to have the front and rear suspension adjusted correctly. Follow the recommended settings in your owner's manual and you won't go wrong. Good luck. | ||

Spray some penetrant on the backside of the knob - there's a cable in there that might need lubing. I think if you remove the screw in the middle of the handle and take the handle off, you might have access to the cable housing and can shoot some lube down in it. +1,000 on having the suspension set properly. If you didn't get a manual, you can register as an owner on buell.com and download the owners manual. It has the suspension setup instructions among tons of other useful stuff. Enjoy! I assume the XP comes without all the lights and sirens, right? So what you're really getting is an X with different bags and different color scheme? Not even a faded-out police badge decal and a painted-over "To Protect and Serve" on the side? Ha ha...that was the best part about buying an old cop car at the county auctions back in high school...you could just barely make out the old insignia. Oh, and the spotlight was key. | ||

LOL i had an old caprice, my favorite thing about it was my ability to pull up behind cars as they left the bars and watch em skip off the curbs out of nervousness | ||

Congrats on the new bike. The compression and rebound settings on the rear shock make a big differance.I change my rear settings sometimes for riding two up and for gravel road rides. | ||

When I bought mine, the knob was tighten all the way and I couldn't turn mine at all. I took the knob off and their is a hex head that you can get a socket on and break it loose. Just be careful when you take the knob off as their is a tiny spring and ball that likes to fall out and hide, never to be seen again  | ||

Great suggestions guys! I will get on that this weekend. Enough force and it WILL move. Or I'll see just how good the warranty is... No lights and sirens, though it does have the siren bracket in place. Anyone know where I can buy a train whistle? Birch white X with bags- great for riding with the kid- she is up enough to see some of the road. On my electraglide (police model too!), she had a hard time being able to see around me. She did shed a tear and hugged the Harley, but she didn't look back after the first curve.  |
