Looking at getting a Uly again and want your thoughts. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2007 with 1700 miles, all stock, no accessories for around $5700. The other is a 2006 with around 15,000 miles, bags, corbin, tall shield, for around $6700.
Torn between the two but leaning towards the 07' and adding some top loader bags.

Your input would be appreciated.

Have previously owned an 06' and a 08' but ended up missing the smiles each of them gave me.

Nopork,
Humor us current owners with a short account of what you miss about your Uly? (is this compared to what you replaced her with or just about riding in general?)

Get them down a bit more and buy the '07.

15K on the '06 and you may be in for a belt, wheel bearings, V/R and/or stator, or harness short problems soon. Is there warranty left on either?

I would get the one with lower miles and use the extra money to get the things you want for it.

The 07' is firm on the price so I don't think it will get any lower after multiple tries. Neither of them have warranty left on them. I get your point on the 06' requiring more probable maintenance items.

As far as what I miss about the Uly, the handling, the torquey motor, the fun factor and the ease of maintenance.

I also have a R1200GS and still intend to keep it and my Harley Ultra, but didn't realize how much I miss the smiles per mile of the Uly, and I still feel I can hammer a rough corner much harder on the Uly than the GS even with the aftermarket suspension.

The cons of my previous Uly ownership was the heat build up on my right leg even with heat blankets and other supposed fixes. Since they have come out with the comfort kit I am willing to give one another try.

It is if when the only direction from where one lives is south and that is where I like to go.

I'd go with the '07. You can farkle later. The Corbin and tall shield may not necessarily be improvements. You may want the Sportsman or other bags. You have 1+ bikes with bags already. There's less miles and some improvements. The progressive fork springs being one.

You've "owned" an 06 and an 08.
You missed the smiles.
And you're back for another round?

hum...

Go for the 2007. It has less miles. It breaks my heart to say this b/c I love my '06. I'm not a fan of the Buell bags (although I have them), I think the Corbin seat pushed me towards the front too much, and you can pick up a tall shield (Parabellum or Cee Baileys) for under $200. Then get the comfort kit, install it, and come down to Minny and help me install mine! It would be nice to see another Uly rider in MN, I am always looking, but never see one.

I would definitely get the stock 07 over the 06 and make it my own. It has barely been broken in yet so your probably getting a like new bike for a substantially discounted price.

Dride, do you want to sell me your top case rack and bag? I know you have to be a fan of money.. being an accountant.. hehe

I have seen a few Uly riders pass by cruising around the twin cities, but have yet to actually meet one. I might have seen you Mnrider, I go to Wild Prairie on occasion.

Sounds cool Mnrider. I would like to get some pictures of a bunch of Uly's lined up together with a cool back drop. hmm, maybe with a bunch of Vikings cheerleaders surrounding them.

I should stop day dreaming and go to bed.

Getting back on topic I believe the 07 Uly is listed on Craigslist.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/mcy/13878360 37.html

I have seen it re-listed now a couple times. If my memory is serving me right he started out more near blue book at $7500(BB is $7985 and assumes much higher mileage).

I can see why he would be firm on $5700 for such a low mileage bike. Your lucky I already own a Uly Nopork, otherwise I might have bought that 07 for $5700 by now.

Mnrider, I too have ridden all over the place this summer, and I am always on the lookout for fellow Buellers. I usually just see lots of Road Kings and Electra Glides...Unless its raining like today, then it's just me and a few beemers. Nothing beats riding in the rain on my Uly.

I say the 07, luggage (all 3 pieces) you can find on eBay for less than $1000 if you take your time) or get all 3 pieces, new for around $1200. The windshield for another few dollars. Given a couple months my guess is you have fewer dollars in the '07 and have it outfitted the same.

The 07' is home safe and sound in my garage. Wheeled down to the Twin Cities last night and picked her up this morning. Gave it a good washing and will go through the suspension setup for my size tomorrow and then take her on a little spin.

Thanks for the responses.
