Westone, Etymotic or Shure in-ear noise cancelling headphones are the way forward. They act as effective earplugs as well as excellent speakers for music. I've had various versions from all 3 manufacturers and there's not much to choose between them, price will determine which you go for. Always wear a balaclava and they don't move when you put your helmet on.

Dcc, I'm w/you on the search for some in-helmet speakers. Earbuds may work great but they're a hassle to add to the routine of gearing up; besides, I've destroyed a set while bunched up in tank bag pocket.

I have seen something like what you are talking about in the Aerostich catalouge. You might look there.

These http://www.anr-headsets.com/Html_folder/CP-MP3.htm l are a great set that is really what you need to block outside noise. The Army uses them for all aircrew members for better communications and noise protection. They fit inside your ear better than ear buds so they don't pull out when you take off your helmet.

Drawback is it is hard to hear emergency vehicles or the one right next to you on the interstate.

Great standup company too!!

I have a set of JVC headphone speakers. I took off the head band and attached them inside my Buell full face. They fit perfectly where the ear pads were. I used self stick velcro on the inner helmet and the back of the padded speakers. I have had to move them around a bit to get the alignment right, but they are awesome.

I don't need to have it at full volume to hear it, unless running above 80 mph, which allows me to still hear traffic and such in the background. I am very pleased with this setup.

Big Ear custom molded ear plugs Pricey but wow are they worth it. I can keep the volume much lower and they sound great while cutting a ton of wind noise. I love mine.

Been using the helmet speakers that come with the Cardo Scala Q2 and playing XM and Ipod thru them with great results. I use 30NR ear plugs and the speakers sound fine to me. If you listen to them without ear plugs the base tones are absent. In a moto environment I don't expect great sound quality.

I use the S-Plugs from www.plugup.com and absolutely love them, they aren't cheap but they work really well for something that doesn't have to be custom fit.

Plus if I turn of the XM they work great as an ear plug, plus the comfort level is fantastic.

After owning then a year, one of the wires began to fray near the entrance to the ear, needless to say this was uncomfortable.

I simply called the manufacturer back and a new set was in the mail to me the next day.

So I guess you could say customer service was top notch!

Garmin has some really cool stuff that is water proof and has all the goodies, heck you can even plot your favorite fishing spots on the lake. I don't have one yet, but that is where I am going.

My pick from Garmin is their GPSmap 378. It has nice button controls that I tried out using my gloved hand, easy to operate, many map forms, NEXRAD weather, fast uploading.

Using the Garmin 478, it has XM as well as XM Wx which provides real time Nexrad radar....priceless. The Nexrad saved my butt countless times on a recent cross country trip so I could re-route around those nasty yellow and red cells. Don't leave home without it

The 478 screen is as good as they come, very crisp and bright in daylight. It's like getting 2 GPS in one as it a very capable marine chart plotter , comes preloaded with both the City Navigator NT USA maps and the Coastal Blue Charts.. Check Adv GPS forum...tons of info on the 478.

I used the XM ExXpress with a rain cover. Worked for over a year until I got my Zumo 550.

If you want that set up send me a PM, mine is laying around the garage and I would be happy to give you a sweet deal.

I picked up the set up at cyclegadgets.

I use an old Roady 2 inside the map cover of my tank bag. Works well and I can use it at home also.
