Well today I rode with my new Nolan N-103 helmet and integrated headphones. I am not to impressed with the sound from these. Anyone have any experience with this? I have not bought the bluetooth module yet, wanting to see how the headphones work. Do things get better with the module? The sound is very tinny. Is the bluetooth module amplified? Using my Ipod I must have it at full volume to hear anything. Have not worn the helmet long enough to know if I like it yet. | ||

Yes. I had the same problem. After calling the company (great customer service BTW) and doing some tinkering I improved the sound greatly. The instructions initially led me to mount the speakers too high in the helmet. I redid the velcro and moved them down a bit and did not cover them with the liner. Move them as low as you can and try to get them even with your ear canals. YMMV PS I know its my first post. I have been a lurker for about 8 months and really close to buying a (an?) Uly XT. Then I will be "official." | ||

In ear monitors are the only way to go if you want great sound quality. But I am pretty used to that kind of system since my military flight helmet uses an in-ear system (CEP's). | ||

I had the same problem with my home brewed speakers in my full face. I started experimenting with their location, took about three tries to get them lined up right. Now they don't need to be at full volume and they cancel wind noise. | ||

As an owner of a Nolan N-102, I would love to hear (read) what you think of the N-103. I've been thinking about getting one because mine is getting to the point that machine washing the liner isn't enough to get the stink out anymore. We pavers sweat a lot.  I also like the idea of the sun shield being on the inside. I keep checking the knowledge vault to see if there's any write ups about it | ||

I have an N102 and it's okay. Really noisey for sure. The N103, has my interest peaked. Onto speakers, I hate speakers in the helmet. Never can get the volume right and when it's maxed, the sound is really distorted. My solution has been the Entyomotic ER-6i's. Small enough to be placed under any helmet (N102 and Shark RSR2 with tight ear pockets). When the music is off, they act like ear plugs. Not as good as actual ear plugs, but good. I'd say they are around a 20~25db noise reduction. I usually wear 33db reducing plugs. | ||

Well I finally have some more to say on this subject, after spending some time with the helmet and speaker/mic setup I can assuredly say  . The good news is I found the EarFuze from another post here on BWB. Well problem solved! These do two major things, one since they are custom fit the sound level needed to hear is much lower, second they reduce the wind noise level at the same time. I am one happy rider. | ||

I have only had a few outings with the helmet so far. Initial impressions: This helmet does not fit as well as my Arai did. I will have to wait to see how it does on a long ride. Wind noise is noticeably higher. I like the flip face feature. Ventilation really sucks. The helmet looks cool, it just isn't on the inside. Again my Arai was MUCH better and even that was not all that great. | ||

I use In ear Monitors which are similar to CEP's. I use Danon AH-c551k's which give me 10-12dB noise isolation. In my helmet (n102)they remove enough of the noise but I can still hear the bike and surrounding traffic much better then when I run foam ear plugs. I have used the IMC speakers and mike sets over the years with Ipods and 2 way radios. they also hook up to a GPS hard wire if you like turn by turn directions.
