While installing my comfort kit...
I unplugged a connector off the wire harness that runs down by where the fuel line enters the frame. Upon reassembly I noticed that one of the four wires came out of one side of that quick connector.
Does anyone out there know how to take these dam things apart for repair???

There should be a latch on one side that flips open. Open the latch and you should see a colored bar; remove the bar, it holds in the pins.

If it doesn't have the bar..you need a dental pick. The pins have a small tab on one side that pops up and catches on the inside of the connector housing. Look at the mating side (not the wiring side) of the connector and you should see a hole or notch to one side of the pin; the pick goes in there to depress the latch and the wire/pin pulls out.

I haven't had my FP out, sorry I don't know which type of connector it is. If its just a case of one pin came out, though...you should be able to unplug the connection and push the wire/pin back into place. You should hear/feel a click once it's in.

It looks like the wire broke at the back of the pin. You can get replacement pins but it takes a special set of crimpers. It's been a while since I installed one but I think you should be able to pull the orange part out then you can remove the pin by bending in the tabs on the side and pushing it out the bottom.

I would think the dealer should have replacement pins and crimper. The link below is where I get my connectors and pins from.

There is detailed information on making these up in the Factory Service Manual. If you can't find it on line, drop me a note and I'll scan and send it to you.

I have not had to do one of these thus far. Would it be possible to pull the pin out and solder the bit of wire back to it, in the interest of dealers not carrying the pins and having to wait for an order?

The SM has very detailed pictures of these plugs with instructions on how they fit together.
