The AMS oil site indicates the STL#5 (which I assume is 5 wt oil) is recommended for Showa units and winter conditions. Reduces dampening but increases rebound. Buell sez use type E but doesn't specify wt. Any thoughts on fork oil choices for an 08' 12X ? If I procrastinate any longer should be able to get to the 25K mark before first fork oil change. Interesting that there is NO oil change requirement for the rear shock ?!

Thanks Glenn - looks like HD, E type = 10wt. Showa indicates 5wt. maybe I'll mix the 2 and do 7 1/2 wt. Also throw in some beer, a bat wing and newt eye, for good measure.

I did 7.5wt in mine and LOVE it. Much better than the Type E (which is 10wt). Not so sure the 5wt would be better than the 7.5wt.

My favorite is Traxxion branded Maxima stuff. Works GREAT!

"Interesting that there is NO oil change requirement for the rear shock ?!"

Isn't the rear a gas shock?
