So my Uly will be going in for a new clutch cable next week since it made contact with the front header when the cable holder wire holder broke on I-95. My question is this: Is there an updated "Flash" for the 07 ECM? I am going to have a TPS reset done and may ask them to check the timing. Bike has 3800 miles and best I can muster is 42-43 mpg around town and 38 on the highway. I am looking for fuel mileage and didn't know if there is an updated flash that may also help. Bike has an Dec 06 build date.

Updated holder has already been installed. They had to order a cable. I figured if it has to be in the shop I might as well get a few things done while it's there.

So is there an updated flash for the ECM? I have searched and I'm about as clear as mud if there is or isn't. I know there is one for the 08's but unsure about the 07's. I know that is the original map in there since I bought it new in Mar 09.

I don't recall if the '07 had an update, but with it's open air box, a lot of folks had their '06's reflashed with the '07 program. All that was needed for that to happen, other than a willing dealer, was an '07 VIN and the HD 'puter.

Maybe all it needs is to reflash the stock program and do the TPS reset. Most of the bikes needed the TPS reset within 4000 miles anyway. Then it would be good for the next 20,000 or more. After having done a few TPS resets, I would recommend a little shot of carb cleaner on the throttle body and throttle plate and shaft.

Thanks for the info there Etennuly. I'll talk with the dealer when I take it in. You are saying to just knock off any build up that may have started with the carb cleaner though prior to resetting to make sure that the TPS reset is as accurate as possible; makes real good sense to me.

AFAIK there has been no reflash for the 07. You should definitely be getting better mileage than that, at least 45-50 MPG highway without trying hard. I'd suggest TPS reset and check static timing. The only other thing I can think of is the interactive muffler valve controller being broken. Dealer can check all 3 pretty easily.

The only way to know for sure is to have the dealer hook up the digital technician computer to your bike and have them check for a newer calibration.

That's actually a tiny bit better mileage than my '07 gets, running Journey bags full time.
Everything's been checked on mine, too.
Best ever was 48 mpg in the mountains.

Jimmy, Yep! I was doing one on a friends '06 Uly the other day. After doing the TPS reset it ran worse than it did before. We took the air box off, cleaned it up a bit, reset the TPS again, and it runs fine, he says smoother than it had been in a long time. He also told me his fuel mileage was back to 49.5, his average when all is good. Race ECM, stock pipe wired open, tail bag only.

Mine is also back to running well and back to my average fuel mileage of 50.8 when all is well. Stock pipe and electronics, all three Journey bags all of the time.

Thanks for all of the info. The back ground on the bike is this. Bike was titled as a rental bike in early '07 at Shelton's HD/Buell. The bike was test ridden and never moved again. After two years they put it on the sales floor as a used 07 with 35 miles on it at an extremely low price just to get it out of inventory. They changed the fluids the day I picked it up and I had a 1K mile service done just 2.5 weeks later. Since then I have simply ridden it. Most of the time I take it out it is an honest 80-120 mile ride. Always use premium gas. Fixing to do another service on it and put Amsoil it in. I didn't want to mess with much of anything until it has been driven enough to break in and sort it's self out. I guess I should probably put plugs in it also just as a precaution as I imagine that it had some repeated short runs while it was in the rental fleet moving in and out of the building.

The plugs are a good idea for that situation for sure. The worst thing they did in the show rooms was start it up so a customer could 'hear' it. They would rev them a couple of times and shut it off. They sent a lot of fouled plugs out on the earlier bikes. They can be partially fouled also, as in has been wet fouled, run enough to dry out, but they are never quite the same.
