I am wondering if someone here can help? I am wiring in additional lights on my 09 12X and am wondering how everyone that has done this mod powered them so that they turn off when you turn off the key? I have looked at the fuse block and there seems to be a few different ideas that came from that but I am looking for a nice clean factory wiring job. Any help is appreciated!! Paul |

If you have a relay in the system (HIGHLY recommended), just hook the relay's trigger wire to something that's ignition switched. I wired mine up this way: Relay power direct to battery, with its own fuse - put the fuse as close to the battery as possible in case of a rubbed wire; you want the fuse to pop before the wire starts welding itself to the frame where it rubbed. Ground from the relay to the flyscreen/front end ground point. Trigger wire from relay to high beam lead - high beams on, aux lights on. Hi beam / ignition off, no aux lights. Most times this trigger wire, in the wiring diagram that comes with the lights, will have their switch hooked up to it. Power from relay to lights. Ground from lights to their mount brackets (bolted to metal). |

Use your relay to get the signal off the cigarette lighter wires. It is switched with the key, and on 08+ bikes the ECM can turn it off should you have a low battery voltage. |

I used an eastern beaver handle bar switch to turn on the low beam HID. The switch is wired to the relay. I start the engine with the light power off, then turn on the HID power after start up. This helps save the HID electronics and reduces the drag on the battery during start up. All of my lights (low, high and Aux) are powered directly from the battery through relays. |
