Is it just a matter of expense or is the another reason? I suppose it could be because of the geometry of the front end, but I can't get a picture in my mind.

I wondered the same, but the X has totally different forks, and if you notice on the X the axle is pushed back a tad behind the fork to keep the wheelbase the same.

You're right Froggy, on the 08's and up the forks have a different axle hole moving the wheel back to it's original position as the 07's and earlier. Those of us, Treadmarks being the first, that have done it have not noticed any difference in handling.
