My side stand is has a lot of play in it. The two bolts holding the unit on to the chassis are tight, but the mechanism is loose and I don't see a way to tighten anything. The recall was done two years ago.

Mine is fine as long as I keep the two bolts tight. They loosened up twice in 2000 miles. Put some blue loctite on them this time.

How many miles you got on that thing? Mine is at 41,000+ and the side stand is feeling loose, has been feeling that way for about 10,000. With tight bolts.

May be some wear, may be some bending of hinge area. I think new ones are around $70.00, could probably refurbish it for about an hour and a half of labor. As in take it off bend the bracket back to specifications and replace any worn bolts or the hinge pin.

I have been dealing with problems higher on the list. I may look into doing it this week.

Kind of a personal question, isn't it?

Well, considering what else has been asked and done here.....nah.....not too personal. Just kind of leads to approximating the longevity of the item in question, eh?

My bike has about 16k on it. I think I'll get a new one and put it on this winter.

I used a .5" dia. by 1" hardened shoulder bolt. It let me take the slack out of the factory setup. Much smoother operation and more secure when up and down.

Not a problem since and that was two years ago.

Nice idea. Even when I installed my new assembly (changed to an XT "putter" stand with the big foot), I noticed the slack between the stand and tne mount. Mine has the new pin/C-clip setup, so no real way to take out slack...might have to try your idea. Mine's already held to the case with grade 8's and blue loctite...what's one more? lol

Specs please.

0.5" x 1" hardened shoulder bolt

Do we have a grade, thread pitch or source?

I am thinking about ordering a couple from Grainger or someplace.

I don't know the grade but it is stainless and said 0.5" x 1.0" hardened shoulder bolt on the package. The threads are 3/8" NC and I used stainless steel locknut with locktite to attach after applying marine grease. My source was from my job and they get them from a supplier but we no longer use them.

I'd avoid stainless there as it will most likely only be grade 2.

I would try to source them locally, as Mcmaster has 1 shipping rate, Red-Overnight. Gets it there quick but its like a minimum $15.
