Talking to two different dealers I have been quoted I price for each.

My problem is I would rather have the X, but one dealer is offering the XT for the same price as the X. I really like both bikes. I suspect I'll not be doing too much offroading, though dirt and gravel roads are going to happen quite a bit. I got a great price for the X, so since the XT is now the same price, the XT deal is smokin.

If the XT had the 74 degrees vs. 54 degrees steering lock, I would choose the XT in a heart beat.

For you guys that ride these things and mainly for the guys that have ridden both, what are your thoughts.

FYI - the X is an '09 and the XT is an '08. Both brand new.

I thought everything built from '08 on has the greater steering lock...no?

no.
Only the X has the greater steering lock.
XT retains the 06-07 trees because the forks are 43mm rather than the X's 47mm setup.

Edit: Just adding that the XT doesn't really need the increased lock since it's not for off roading.
Though it will be fine on gravel roads & maintained fire roads.

I know this because my Scg does fine on gravel roads & maintained fire roads and it has hardly any ground clearance at all.

My nephews 12Ss does fine on gravel roads, no reason to beleive that the XT won't. My 06 Ulys steering lock issue only affects me when I am trying to park it in the garage.

I believe that I would get the XT as it should be easier to sell with the lower seat height. A lot of people get on a ULY and walk away when they can't reach the ground.

I believe that I would buy the XT. The lower seat height on the XT is a great advantage in many ways. Why not go for the free hard bags, that is like a free $1000.

We have both an X and XT.

Both can be outfitted with the comfort kit before you pick it up.

Having owned the Journeyman bags, I think the Outdoorsman bags are worth the price differential.

Leaning toward the X even at the same price, but who knows. For me the steering is quite an issue. As far as the bags go i can save for the bags. It seems strange to me but shopping around there seems to be quite a few '08 XT relative to '08 X's, guessing the X still outsell the XT's for whatever reason.

I have no big issues with the steering lock on my XT and I ride a fair amount of gravel and forest service roads. I've often thought of going to the X, but I'm much more comfortable on the XT in rougher terrain because I can get my feet on the ground. I know for sure that I'd have dumped an X on several occasions where the XT has stayed upright. A lot has to do with your off-road riding skill level and mine is not at the top of the heap.

+1

When the Uly is in motion under power, the key to turning radius is to lean her over more. It makes the lock-to-lock angle a non issue or nearly so (garage).

When is the last time anyone ever went to full lock while riding?
The garage is a PIA. Giving some thought to making mine a drive through.

Glad I'm not the only one who needs about 5 minutes to get it backed in to the garage.

My limited observations and decision....
I have been able to ride both bikes X vs XT on and off for a couple of weeks now, keeping each for a couple of days at a time back and forth.
I can say that originally the XT was my choice, a little easier to get on and off. But after dealing w/ the lack of steering lock on the XT while moving it around and playing off-road I am now looking to purchase the X.

I spent some time on a 09 with the improved steering. I thought it was nice, it was great when off roading or making a U turn. I thought about putting the new trees on my bike as I will have the entire front end off, but decided it wasn't worth the additional cost over the 06 trees which I got used.

You can put the 08 trees on the XT if you want. Lot cheaper than a new X. I did it to my 06 X and love it and I have hit the stops on the old trees while riding. It's easy at parking lot speeds and while off road on a rocky uphill switchback!

Here's where I was going!

As far as which to get, get the one that fits you best. I have long legs, I'll take the X. The inseam impaired need the XT. A bike your not comfortable on will not be much fun.

It was washed out and closed when I was there. It's on my list to go back and try again. Congrats on the XT, if you decide to swap the trees, by all means PM me if you have any questions. I might be able to tell you what the best beer to work on a Uly is!!

I've sold a few X's to people who regret they didn't listen more to my suggesting giving the XT more consideration. Seat height being the main reason, then cost of adding bags (and on earlier models heated grips) make the XT a better suited scooter for most riders. Gravel roads, dirt even, are handled adequately on both bikes and most people do not off-road or single-track their Uly in places that require the heavier wheels and higher ground clearance. Tires can be changed on either model as the rider finds ones better suited to terrain & riding style.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't like it.

My kinda Uly riding; Joules & I often find solace in places like this from a cruel thoughtless world
