Since day one, I’ve always run the ’06 seat on my ’07 until these last few months, when I re-installed the original ’07 again.

I never could understand what the big deal was about arse/leg heat that people complained about until I started using the ’07 again (now I get it!) – the heat with the ’07 seat is horrendous … to the point that I had to stop riding in shorts and flip-flops.

FWIW, the 06 seat is waaay cooler, and it's back on.

Johnboy777- my dilemma follows...
I have an 08 with the stock seat and the 06 "low" seat. I have been using the "low" seat because I don't like the way the stock seat rolls be forward on to my bits and pieces. The "low" seat has no foam, but gel instead and gets hotter than satans a-hole. So...
I just bought and installed the comfort kit. Leg heat is gone, have not had a chance to ride long enough to allow heat to penetrate seat.
Question is, I was going to buy the "tall" seat at the same time as comfort kit but they were not in stock. Is the all loving "tall" seat as comfortable as they say or should I just get a sheepskin?
ps I am assuming the comfort kit will deal with the heat. This is purely comfort related.
Thanks.
Brad

I actually feel more seat heat with this new comfort kit installed. Never had a problem with it before. I'm going to have to get that silicone matting from Target and insulate the front of the seat where the holes are by the rear head.

Hey Lulu7404,

The stock '07 and '08 seats are the same. The '06 seat has been very comfy for me at least - 6'2" w/ 34" inseam. I don't have the RSS comfort kit, but it seems (for the price) that might be your best bet, to start with.

Also, some of the guys were using this w/ success (applied to the underside of the seat pan): Thermo-Tec 13575 - Thermo-Tec Adhesive Backed Heat Barriers

LINK: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-13575/?image =large

It's on my parts shelf, but never applied it.

EDIT:

For refference, I probably should mention that I usually ride in cotton cargo shorts with FirstGear HT overpants and 8" contractor boots - I keep the overpants legs unzipped up about 12" or so, and have been pretty comfy in 95deg weather with this set up, here in the NE ...as long as I'm moving, of course.

You might have different results perhaps, if you're riding in jeans or leathers, i imagine.

Remember to that the 07/08 seat is cut down and narrower than the 06 seat,so on the 06 seat your leg is actually a little further out or away from the engine,I have run the 06 seat since day one on my 07 model,as well as running a RSS from the get go.

Electroglider-which seat are you running, I still have not had time to ride long enough for gel seat to get hot.

Johnboy- I ride in Fieldshear mesh pants with cotton gym shorts for short rides and cycling shorts for 200+ mile rides. Always with Sidi Canyon boots. Towards the end of the rides, I can't sit in a comfortable spot. I am not sure if it is just the fact that the "low" seat has no foam for comfort or if I am actually getting slow cooked from the heat. When i put the 08 seat on my wrists start to hurt because I sit on the back for more cushion and that tilts me forward. I think the 06 seat would let me sit closer to air box and not lean forward. The PO put risers on for that reason but didn't get longer cables so when I turned the bars to the right the engine rev'd. He shoved the bars over to the right in the clamps and I didn't like that.
Aussie and everyone else- The seat shape and thickness is what I want to know about. I am going to assume until I have time to ride 100+ miles, that the comfort kit took the heat problem, if not I will get some Thermo-tec. I'm looking for riders like you who have both tall and stock and even low seats for comparison on comfort (not heat) on long days.
With low seat I can almost flat foot both feet, 08 saddle same when I slide towards front. Would the tall seat be too tall. I am 5'10" with 30" inseam but I seem to handle 08 seat just fine. I am thinking the shape and extra foam will make it more comfortable. The 08 seat also allows my 36yo knees to be just a little straighter. Otherwise I am looking at Palmers highway pegs. $$$
Thanks all!

I have/had all three versions of seats. Here're my personal evaluations and of course YMMV.

34" inseam and I ride mostly with Sidi On Roads so the reach to the ground with the '06 Standard (Tall) is not a problem. I prefer the height actually since it allows me to reach down to the bars and the flat top is less restrictive. Three issues with the '06 Tall: the slick rear portion doesn't agree with my wife's cordura overpants (fine with her leathers though), the seams on the front can annoy on long trips, the seat is too soft for me on long trips.

The '07-up Standard (Medium) is what I use mostly on longer trips for above reasons, and because it's grippier for the wife and she can see a little better around me, also the slightly better reach to the ground helps when loaded up and two up. However it folds my legs up more and puts my forearms more level with the grips which I don't prefer.

The '06 Low (Low Gel) was put back in the box before I had 30 miles on it. Made me feel like I was reaching up to the grips and the airbox felt like a tank bag. Not for me though I recently sold it to another BadWebber and I hope he's enjoying it.

As to the heat issues my bike has more problems with the heat than I do, and since it's been 100 deg or more daily here recently (110 one day last week) everything feels hot including the seat, either version.

This may help also:

The bike's radiant heat is real, it can't be denied. The discomfort level for the individual, though, is subjective. The only time Uly heat has been a problem for me is during "The Ride for Kids" two times a year.
Of course CA's laws, or lack there of, regarding lane filtering helps... a lot!

I put the low seat on and have been riding for about a week in moderate temps (80-90). I have installed Odie's max blanket. With the low seat, the gel is hot. The '09 stock seat is not.
