A little history, I bought this bike from a HD/Buell dealer about 9 months ago, used with only 1500 miles on it. The ignition switch was held in with duct tape, the salesman said they would replace it for a mere $100. Since I'd gotten a really good price on the bike I decided to do that.

Now the dealer swore that they could get a new switch from Buell that would match the original keys for the bike, so that the seat, helmet, gas cap, and ignition would all use the same key. First switch came in, wasn't the same key. Dealer didn't notice this until they'd replaced it. But they ordered it again, double checking the VIN, etc.

Second switch came in, same problem! Now all they want to do is give me my $100 back because they don't want to bother trying to find out why Buell can't supply them with an ignition switch that matches the original bike.

Also, the replacement switches do NOT engage the steering lock hole, when put in the lock position there's almost a half-inch of space between the end of the lock and the frame. Seems like they're putting an '06 lock on my early '07, that won't work since the '07 has different clamps to get the higher lock-to-lock turning.

Are there any dealers on here that know anything about this problem?

My dealer is big and they won't tell me the part number they're ordering, they won't give me any contact info at Buell.

Steve

For now, call Buell CS and go over it with them. Have your dealer contact information handy, and any receipts/dates/etc. I'll check with my parts department and see what the process is to get a keyed lock...

Steve- the 08 Ulys were the first ones with the offset triple clamps to increase the steering lock. If yours is an 07 that someone's installed 08 triple clamps on, I believe a custom-made pin is required for the lock.

Or just order the lock cylinder set. C0290.1AK is a full bikes' worth of locks, with keys, for the same $104 as a new ignition lock.

Oops, dyslexic numbers again, my bike is an early '08.

I had called Buell had about 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing back. A salesman at the dealer suggested that he thinks there has been some folks let go because of response time.

Ratbuell, that's an excellent idea, is that the right part number for an '08 also?

I'd have to check at work...but I'm off till Friday.

The first part of the number - C0290 - should be the same. The .1AK is the generational part, might change to .2AK or .1AKA for a supersession. Hit the parts guy with the "what about this part...I think it starts with C0290...". See how that goes. Sorry I can't help out from home...if I have a part number I can access H-Dnet to check availability...but there's no parts lookup online.
