Im looking for guys opinions and experiences dealing with a wrecked Uly... Last week a lady left turned in front of me and I attempted to stop for her but even standing it up on the front wasn't enough to keep from hitting her... So im sure the forks and front wheel are toast... Its going to the shop Thursday to get checked out... So you guys that have been in this situation how much damage totaled your uly? Pics would be awsome... My Uly is a 06' BTW...

Sounds familiar! Does it look like this now?

Anyway, the parts won't total your bike, but it likely that the labor will. New forks, trees, rim, axle, is around $1500 in parts alone. Not sure what else you need without pictures or more info.

I bought an 08 XT that was totaled. Bars bent, primary cover broken by shifter mount and left bag was cracked, and the swing arm had a dent where the left bag mounting bracket hit it. There was minor scuffing in the air box plastic. Why they totalled it I will never know. The frame didn't have as much as a scratch on it.

Bummer - Hope your body parts weren't damaged too. Sometimes in those kind of crashes other damage isn't apparent still they start removing parts. Sometimes a 'total' ain't a bad thing - my brothers fairly new Ultra classic has had lots of problems (leaking oil, exhaust/intake leaks, electrical gremlins etc) since his left turn mishap. I think there are significant forces applied to the machine that rearrange things in a non constructive way.

Not as bad as Froggy there but... we will see... The windshield and plastic underneath is all scratched, Handle bars bent and forks bent for sure also right side foot peg and brake lever broke... I did have the Caribou cases on so the right one took some damage but save a lot on the right side of the bike... Its going to the shop tomorrow to get looked at... i'll know more then... Best part is, I walked away with only sore ribs x-rays showed nothing out of ordinary so that's the good side... I'll get some pics tonight and post em...

UlyGuy - Glad your OK. Good time for a 'fine tooth comb' check of Uly. If no additional damage you may be able to ride before our good weather heads south for the winter. 70* in Oly today - I may have to be irresponsible & forget the chores. stay well. j

I messed my '06 pretty badly on a deer back in '07, but was able to ride it home and back to the dealer for repair. The insurance company (USAA) wanted to replace almost everything (but not total it!) including the frame! I went over it with the dealer tech and canceled a lot of the cosmetic replacements. I didn't need a shiny new left mirror and handguard - the scuffs added character. We both agreed that the frame looked pristine...no damage whatsoever. They finished the work, I got the bike back by the time my sore ribs healed, and I was back in business.

Until:

I eventually went back for a new frame - just didn't want to risk it, especially with clear evidence of a crack.

But they didn't total it...I can't remember how much it all was $5-6k?
