So I come to my Uly riders looking for GPS gurus for help.

So I am taking the Lake Superior Circle Tour over the Labor Day Weekend. I have the MapCreate US Topo software and have a nice detailed map for the US portion of our trip. I'm looking for a deal on the MapCreate Canada Topo software by Lowrance.

Or do you know of any links where I can download some Lowrance iFinder compatible maps of the North of the Border portion of Lake Superior? I have downloaded lake maps, snowmobile maps etc, but have yet to find any roadmaps of Canada yet.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Of course, this would not be a Adventure board topic without anyone chiming in on their favorite spots on the tour with pics!! Bring 'em on!

If there is a better place to post this on Badweb, please let me know or cross post.

Thank you!

Keweenaw Pennsiula, Copper Harbor. M26 on the west coast, Brockway Mountain Drive down the center.

In Bessemer there is the road going out to Black River Harbor, very curvy, lots of waterfalls. Porqupine Mountain. And south of Ishpeming the county roads between National Mine and Palmer to M35 (The road to Gwinn, 553 North to 94, East to 41, North to 2.

Its all good.....

Whole Keweenaw is great - So much to do decided to focus on mining ruins

Liked Redridge & Freda

Good twisties - far too short (the guy paid to add gravel to the road did a great job)

We are doing this one Counter Clockwise. Since we are starting in Fargo, we may take a Southern route across MN on the way out and a more Northern route on the way back.

If we have time, we may run forest roads and our favorite snowmobile trails back through North-Central MN.

I stopped into my local Scheels Sporting goods store last night to find the MapCreate Canada Topo for less than half price.

What a score as I now have tons of data to dump into my GPS for the Canadian portion of our trip. I may be so inclined to travel Kanukistan (as the ADV guys call it) a bit more. Too bad it is so expensive to get snowmobile passes up there!

I'm really jacked for this 1500-1600 miles as I have not gotten that sort of ride in before. I'm doing a nice 480 mile test run on Friday to my Buell dealer for the Comfort Kit and some 5000 mile service.

Nice ride .. I'll have to do that some day.

It will be a bit out of the way but if you have the time try and go to whitefish point .. if not that then the upper ( bigger ) tahaquamenon falls are worth a look.

When I was a young'n and at school at LSSU I took a trip out to whitefish point in late november .. sat there listening to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgetald on my "boom box" while on whitefish point .. looking at the spot where it went down. It was cold, windy and the waves were HUGE .. I had been to Atlantic coast and even during a storm the waves were nothing like this .. I could see how even a big ship could go down.

If your in the soo there is a few pic's of me ( because I'm sure that it has'nt been updated even after all the year's ) in the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald museum there in the soo.

PM me if you want to stop over in the soo .. my oldest son is up there now.

I was told to expect rain around the lake no matter what. That much lake effect means rain somewhere along the way.

So this morning I put on 235 miles in my raingear (it was a heavy mist) to find that my Buell Branded raingear actually was very functional.

It didn't flop in the wind and it protected great. I guess that is one less thing I have to worry about on this lake trip.

I was worried when my wife gave me the Buell branded gear as a gift. I had heard that the Harley/Buell gear was garbage unless you spent hundreds of dollars. I am very happy that this was not the case.

Combine that with some goofy looking boot covers I bought off Ebay and I was cozy for my first half of the trip. After my comfort kit is installed on the Uly here at the dealer, I may find a creative way to put my other 230+ on this afternoon. Hopefully in the sun!

Well, two twists to the plan. While at the Harley dealer getting the comfort kit installed, they found a nice nail in my tire.

Since it was not losing air, I rode it home over 200 miles. It ran fine. I had all good intentions of plugging it since it was a very small hole.

This morning, the plug is holding nice and I should be in good shape to run on Friday morning.

My buddy, on the other hand is not as fortunate. He was doing the maintenance on his BMW before the trip and broke his clutch cable on a test ride. We are now searching for a local shop to put new ends on his existing cable since the factory part is nowhere to be found in stock.

With the number of failing "custom chopper" guys around, there are plenty of folks that can make a custom clutch cable.

We hope to be on the road out of Fargo early Friday morning. We should see Duluth by noon being that it is only 248 miles.

After my many miles on Friday, I think it is very important to stop every 100-150 and take some time. Of course 480 miles of 80 mph superslab is much different riding than the nice cross country stuff.
