After 52 thousand miles, I traded in my Buell Ulysses. I had a lot of fun tinkering with it and making it into a solid long distant ride. Wind/rain protection was its biggest draw back. Anyway, I brought a '06 Honda ST 1300. It has less than 5,000 miles and is in mint condition. Power windshield, 7.7 gal, etc. This forum turned into a life style. Get on the computer, check my stocks then good to BWB forum. I'll miss it. Ride safe, Bob | ||

I got tired of waiting for the 1125 Uly...so I bought a CR with high bars, put on Uly pegs, and a comfort seat. It's not a Uly, but it's dang close. I might get an extra fly screen and see if a local plastic shop can make me a little windscreen for it to get some of the wind blast off my torso. | ||

Congrats on the ST! I sold my '99 ST1100 this past February after realizing that I wasn't using it for what it's made for. If I was still riding long distances for 3-6 weeks a year (like I was before baby came along), I would probably still have it. Great bike for long distance riding, and by all accounts, the 1300 is just as good, and more sporty. | ||

Congrats on the Jetson Mobile,(that's what they sound like anyway). Great bike, my friend has one. IIRC you do a lot of long distance Iron Butt type rides where protection from the elements would be nice. The ST certainly has that. I foresee a Corbin seat in your future. | ||

Congratulations on the new ride. I can understand the attraction of a Sport-tourer with a good fairing. (I keep looking at the Moto Guzzi Norge) Keep us posted about your rides and adventures. | ||

Bienhoabob, nice bike. I have heard nothing but good things about them. When Buell releases the 1125ST it would interesting to compare. The ST 1300 has a lot of features I would like in a Sport Touring bike. I have been looking at that and the Concourse. I rode a Concourse but not the ST 1300. I looking forward to a test ride some day. | ||

Thanks, guys. It wasn't an easy decision. I waited and waited for Buell to come out with an ST. When the 2010s came out, with improvements but no ST, I said that's it. It's not going to happen in the near future anyway. The ST that I brought had less than 5M and in mint condition. Going thru the paper trail, the bike was a repo. @ 2,600 miles, then the shop mechanic put on another 2,000 miles. I test drove a BMW 1200RT and a BMW 1300GT. I'd say the Honda is somewhere in between the two. I tried local dealers for the FJR and Concours, but they would not take a Buell as a trade in. Especially one with 52,000 miles on it. Jetson Mobile fits, yeah a teenager would say boring, but I'm turning 60 in a month. Priorities change. Have fun, Bob (Message edited by bienhoabob on August 25, 2009) | ||

I test drove a BMW 1300RT and a BMW 1300GT. I'd say the Honda is somewhere in between the two. A 1300RT! Wow, I want one of those... it's still a 1200cc engine, only the K series went to 1300. Used, a low mileage ST is a no brainer, but when it comes to new, Honda has lost their way. The ST cost more than the RT and the RT has comfort in spades over the ST. I can't quite figure out what game Honda is playing with the pricing. I've ridden both, I'll keep my RT, my buddy who owns the ST thought the same thing. Hey Bob - no need to jump ship. I have an 03 ST with elec windshield but no ABS. Got 25K pretty trouble free miles on the 'silver streak'(except for the windshield - elec motor just went south) I ride the Uly more, but like having the ST as a 'spare'. It is a HEAVY beast and also puts out some heat in summer riding temps. But that V4 is like a turbine - and once you get rolling (aint hard to do!) it's a good a sport touring bike as can be had. I added rear 'tipover' protection - custom made by Jay H (jay@midsouthspyders.com) if you wish to explore that option. Saves some expensive body cladding & side bags. Good luck & happy trails. j | ||

Hey Bob, I got your email and have just been to busy to reply. Congrats on the new ride1 I can see why you would want a heavier bike with more wind protection. I was out a couple of weeks ago on I94 heading towards Milwaukee and I was being whipped all over the highway. It was just a short ride but I was beat when I got home. I saw that Moto Guzzi Norge that Crusty was talking about on their website and I plan on going to a dealer and look at one in person. Seems like a nice looking bike. But I'm not trading for anything right now, can't afford to! I still have my eye on a Road King in the future. Bob, I still owe you lunch for helping me with the spark plugs in my Uly, we'll have to get together someday soon before the Chicago weather turns to crap! You know Chicagos' two seasons we have here, winter and construction, and it looks like the construction season is winding down. | ||

Well, shoot. I just joined the Buell community, and now a fellow LD rider is exiting. Sorry to hear that, but the ST is close to the perfect motorcycle in many ways (which is sort of why I crossed it off my list - I wanted something with some odd character). Good luck Bob! | ||

But then on the long rides I said to myself, why am I doing this? My competitors are veteran riders, computer savvy, riding touring bikes for the most part. Why am I giving them any edge at all? They should be giving me a handicap. You'll have Hootis to ride with on the MN1000. | ||

For pure slab riding, I love my BMW K1200RS with the adjustable windshield. I rode 2500 miles in 10 days in January and it was fantastic. Heated grips, heated seat, BMW heated vest and battery operated socks. Of course, it sucks on forest service roads, hence the Buell. | ||

I rented a K1200GT in Denver for a few days to explore the northern part of that state. Awesome time, but I found my long legs had to curl around the bike to properly sit on the pegs. My ankles started to kill after a couple hours. I think I need to find a sport-tourer that gives a little bit in that department. The R1200RT fit great, and I'll try out some of the metrics one of these days. So far, I still have no need for one at home. Bob, hope the ST1300 riders have as enjoyable a community as this. | ||

Wolfridgerider, Per your request, it's raining outside so this is as good a pic. as I could get. Basically stock, risers and Throttle M. only changes for now. I'm sure I'll be adding gps, cb, tourtank, etc over the winter.  Forgot to mention price, there was a madness sale and the bike was marked down to $8,000. | ||

8K is actually not much less than average these days. Used bike prices on every brand has taken a huge hit. Around here the 06/07 models are listed in the 9K range, but I don't know anybody getting that. There is a ST board, they should be able to give you more details on servicing the bike. Wayne | ||

Well...It requires time/patience to work on. For instance: valve adj requires shims (Honda makes 65 different ones in .025mm increments - get a micrometer) Which requires removing cams, lifters etc. The good news is... ya only have to do it every 16K mi. thats why the ST is in the back of the garage & Uly in front. |
