I was coming back (in the cage) from Lowes in James Island, SC today about 1:30 PM and was passed by a black Uly with a Washington state tag entering downtown Charleston. Anybody here? | ||

Wasn't me, but I was at the Lowes on James Island around 10:30 this morning and saw a Buell on the connector, although it wasn't a Uly. I was swapping out the handlebars on my Street Glide and needed to buy a Retaining Ring removal/install tool. Spent 6 hours swapping the handlebars which involved removing and installing longer throttle/idle cables, front brake lines and clutch cable. Had to pull the complete exhaust to remove the tranny cover to swap the clutch cable. Buttoned it back up and hit the starter to adjust the throttle cables and no juice to the starter. All other electronics worked, discovered I pinched the wire under the controls on the handlebar. After wiggling it a bit I got it started and rode over to Lowcountry and dropped it off for them to fix...my weak link is electrical. While there I took another good look at the Uly they have. If you remember about 2 weeks ago I test rode the XT they had and it just didn't seem comfortable. I think I figured it out while sitting on the XP they have on the floor. My arms are so short to reach the bars I'm almost up on the tank/airbox which puts my feet on the pegs behind my ass. I noticed the back of my butt was about 6 inches from the ridge in the seat. By sliding back on the seat I found it a much more comfortable position but then the bars are too far away. I was so disgusted with all the little snags I hit today with the bar and cable change I told my buddy helping me I was going to see if Lowcountry would do an even trade - my Street Glide for the Uly. I'm sure they would laugh in my face but I am going to go back (maybe tomorrow) and test ride the XP and spend a little more time on the bike. Does anyone know if you can put risers and maybe a different bar on a Uly without needing to change all the cables - it's a pain in the ass. Also what gives on the XP model...MSRP is $13,495 seems steep as an X is around $11,495 while the P has bags (as does the XT at about $12,495) what else does it have to justify the added cost...certainly they can't expect a civilian to pay more for factory installed wiring for lights and sirens that would not be used by a civilian. Mark- I've got Precision Engineering 1" risers on my Uly. I think you can go as high as 2" without changing the cables. With the 1" risers and a slight tilt back on the bars, mine fits me pretty well. I can't imagine why the XP would be another $1k over the XT. That price might be justified if it came with the lights and siren installed! | ||

Hugh Thanks. I didn't make it over today, maybe one evening after work. I really want to spend some more time on the bike and think the risers would be a big help. |
