I was wondering if anyone has had luck putting a set of Jesse bags on there Uly? If so what mounting hardware did you use? They don't list any application on there website I emailed them but haven't heard back. | ||

I've done Pelican 1430 top loaders with custom (DIY) mounts. The Jesse's would work with a mounting system like Happy Trails or Touratech have. You will most likely have to remove your passenger footpegs. The Pelicans are about 14", the Jesse's are at least 17" if I remember correctly.  | ||

What did you do with the rear turn signals? Sweetfish - the boxes lock with a padlock. They don't lock to the bike - could be removed "without permission", but it would take a bit of effort. | ||

Turn signals are where they should be. You just can't see'em from this angle. The latches at the front and rear of the lid contain cylinder locks, but you can use padlocks instead or as well. The the boxes cannot be removed without removing the lids. They're as secure, or more so than any box out there. And though they are a bit ugly (not in my opinion though), the big upside is, if you lay the bike down and mash a box, they can be pounded back in shape and used. Something you can't do with any plastic box out there. Of course, the Pelicans can take pretty much any abuse you can throw at them. They're just not roomy enough for my liking. | ||

Itileman - Can you take a picture of your custom mounting brackets? If you don't mind me copying your work. I like out proportional the boxes are to the bike. Hangetsu - Those Touratech boxes are expensive. They are a little big for my liking. When I rode out to Big Bend I just took two backpacks just bunged them down. | ||

The mounts were made from composite decking stair rail ballusters. I routered out the ends and the inside fits tightly to the inside of the rails. Bolts for the bottoms are the recessed type. Hangetsu - nice set up, but it wouldn't fit in my garage    Note that the ballusters fit exactly inside the grooves on the back of the Pelicans. Sometimes luck is better than genius. Dang I think I'm going to have to make me one of those. That is perfect size for going to school and anywhere else. Do you have a picture of the bracket on your bike that is not so close? | ||

Sweetfish - they are a bit pricey, but not too much more than the stock bags, which I'm not too crazy about. The size, unfortunately is necessary for me. Most of my trips are two-up, several days minimum, and we camp. I don't see how I could manage with less space unless we stayed in hotels. Stick some good reflector tape across the rear of those though, and you are very visible at night. Cheers. | ||

Sfish - which bracket are you referring to?    The last pic shows the stock mounting rack with my flat tire repair kit/foot pump (green) and gas siphon + other stuff kit (black) that ride inside the cases when mounted to the bike. | ||

Hangetsu - True, same here I dislike the Buell bags. The sportsman bags are nice. A lot more rugged IMP. I don't two up so I don't need that much space. Itileman - Ok I see now. Jesse's does not make anything for the Uly, But I think I'm going to get a set of Happy Trail bags.. Here's the email I got back from Jesse: Brady, we currently don't have anything for the Buell. I don't know offhand if Jesse is going to look into the Buell in the near future. Rick | ||

I have the Happy-Trail bags on my BMW GS. Just completing a 5600 mile trip including 19 states and the bags are leak free and stood up to 500 miles of offroad abuse. The canyon cut bags reduce the chance of them dragging during hard cornering too. I bought the bags for $525 shipped and the racks can be had for a bit more. I am quite happy with them and H-T service is top notch. NUTS | ||

Itileman - Thinking of switching from my stock side cases to Pelicans. 1) What size are yours and is the capacity similar to the Journey's ? 2) Where do you get the 'decking stair rail ballusters ? 3) It appears you were able to utilize the standard Buell mounting rack system - sweet. I really like your military surplus 'misc stuff holders' - why didn't I think of that? Anyway - thanks for the tutorial - don't have to reinvent the wheel now. | ||

I have the 1430's on and they are small, about 16L. Wanted a smaller case for in town. The 1440's are much bigger (31L) and can be mounted the same way. They have a handle and wheels that are removable. Stair rail ballusters are available at places like Lowe's and Home Depot. I'm pretty close to getting a set of 1440's. Best deal I've seen is here: http://www.boss-safety.com/shop/pelican-1440nf-loa der-protector-case-foam-p-1610.html They will need to be mounted high - the bottom of the case paralell to the bottom mounting bar, or you will have a problem with the grab rail off the triple tail. It gets in the way of the 1430's a bit when you open the lid, but you can still get a six pack of bottles in without much hassle. The 1430's were $125.00 for the set delivered.
