l'm wanting to buy something the wife and l can ride 2-up on. We test rode a '04 Concours and an '09 Uly. l can't justify the $12k for a new Uly, but have been looking at some used ones. Here's where l'd like to draw on the expertise of you guys here. ls there any difference at all or are the '06 and '07 pretty much the same? ls there one year in particular that stands out? My wife and l thank you. | ||

As noted in the other thread, the '07 has progressive rate fork springs, reducing brake dive. I think it also has an "open" inner airbox. Main changes to EFI didn't happen until '08. 06/07...basically the same. Oh, and 06 had Dunlop D616 tires; 07 had the Pirelli Syncs. Someone correct me if I missed something. It's late. Keep in mind that the '07 parts are relatively cheap and can be easily fitted to the '06 bikes, so don't rule out a nice '06 just because the '07 has a few upgrades. If I remember correctly, the lower '07 seat was under $150, the airbox cover was under $40, and the fork springs were about $40 (just install them at the next fork service). I don't know of anyone that has bothered to do an oil pump upgrade (~$190). The tech blurb about the upgraded oil pump claims better scavenging performance but not a higher flow rate. | ||

The '06 has a better "decal" on the airbox cover. It says "American Motorcycles" under the Buell name. The '07 does not. It is a minor detail perhaps, but it is the only unimprovement from '06 to '07 that I know of. | ||

I have transitioned from a 1986 Concours to the Ulysses. From the passengers perspective, she likes the Ulysses much better for several reasons - more room on the seat, less buzzy vibration in the pegs. The power characteristics are no comparison - to my passenger on the Concours it always "felt" like I was "going too fast". I can spool up the Buell and it "feels" like I'm "not going too fast". Hands down the Ulysses suspension is a much better ride 2-up than the Concours, more stable, no chassis-jacking shaft drive, better fuel mileage (Buell 52mpg vs. Connie 36mpg - 2-up). I have an 06 model Ulysses. | ||

Thanks Skrobe. That was perfect! Thanks to everyone for the help. l'm leaning towards the Uly more than ever. l sure like it, but it's the "Pretty One" who will be making the decision here. She thinks the Uly is looking mighty good right now, because of you all. | ||

Did Buell eliminate the need for TPS resets for '07? Not that it's a big deal. Mine's an '06 and its a keeper. | ||

Also, there were a couple of recall issues: Bank angle sensor, kick stand, and tall windshield attachment. I don't think the dealer can sell the bike without taking care of those issues. You may want to ask to be sure. | ||

No, its still required for the 2007. The front fork springs are triple rated. |
