I just fitted my second set of Metzler Roadtech Z6 Interacts. I bought my 09 Uly near the end of November, 08 and My Pirelli Scorpion Syncs lasted me a whopping 4700 miles. After a few recommendations and some research, I decided to try the Roadtechs which I had mounted at the beginning of last June. I've done a bit of riding this summer and now at 10,030 miles my Interacts are toast (see photos).
Overall the Interacts are a great tire. I was hoping for a few more miles than what I got out of them, but quality of handling is significantly better than the Syncs. Turn-in is quick, but smooth. Grip in all conditions was fantastic. In the 5000 miles I rode them I experienced nearly every road condition possible and the Roadtechs took it all on without stress. At anything but stupid speeds the tires clung to wet surfaces as well as they did on dry. Te last ride I took them on entailed about 50 miles of rutty & rocky unpaved road and the already worn Z6s worked as well as the Pirellis did when they were new.
Anyway, I give the Metzlers two thumbs up (maybe only one for longevity). Until a Tourance or equivalent is made in sport bike sized, I can't think of a better tire for the Uly.
Cheers.
A-

Here's my stock Strada's after 7500klm's, I'm putting Pilot Road 2 on as I've been happy with the grip/milage on my S3's Road 2.

I believe the Metzler and the Pirelli are constructed on the same carcass.

I did NOT care for the Strada. I skulled one to the cords in 1800 miles.

The profile makes for very quick turn in. Very responsive.

I prefer a more rounded profile.

I LOVE the PR2's. They are my all time favorite.

Thanks for the comparison. Though I didn't get the mileage I was hoping for, I decided to give the Z6 another go. I really do like the handling. The turn-in is quick, but I don't find it a bit unnerving or unstable. I may give the PR2 a try next time though. I've heard too many great things about that tire to ignore it.
Cheers.

"I skulled one to the cords in 1800 miles."

How the F... do you skull a tire to the cords in 1800 Mi.? Drifting?

Large bastard.

High torque engine.

Poor throttle discipline.

Ask Barker and Maximum.

The other thing that sucks about BOTH the Metzler and the Pirelli is that neither of them have wear bars in the center of the tire. You don't know you are done until it's too late.

Yes...he is a Large Bastard!

Seriously, I don't know how he goes through tires so fast...but he does.

I am real close to trying the PR2's next, but I have been loving the stickyness of the Distanzia's.

Lucky he didn't pitch himself chopping the throttle like that.

@Hangetsu, those tires look like the wore out so quickly because they have all that rubber on the sides that you're not using. JK

So far,
I've run:
stock Strada's, liked them well enough, and they are a decent tire for me and the way I ride. They wore reasonably well, for the way I ride. ~7600 miles. (Only 4000 of that was mine.)

Conti RA, Lots of grip, liked the profile, odd wear and and fast wear. could never really get tire pressures and suspension to play just right. One of the scariest tires I have ever ridden in the wet. 4400 miles.

Michelin PR2, my favorite tire to date. Not as much dry grip as the others I have run, but not too far off the back. Absolutely freaking brilliant in the wet and standing water, these things felt like they had as much grip in the wet as they did in the dry. Very round profile, makes for very predictable handling. 7200 miles (probably had another 500 to 1000, but I had at 600+ before I made home.)

Bridgestone BT021, a long way from my favorite so far, but I was paying retail. Plenty of grip on the sides, and a bit more of a triangular profile than I am used to. To put things in perspective, I'm dragging pegs, and still have chicken strips. Also having a hard time balancing pressure and suspension setup for wear and traction. Even though it is a dual compound, it still seems to be fairly soft in the center and prone to flat spotting. The compound on the side almost looks like it is too soft, and really prone to cupping, from what looks like tread squirm. Very little feed back. On the up side, they are good and confident in gravel.

Z6 Interact, well I have a set on the tire changer waiting for the BT021s to wear out. They actually have a different carcass than the old Stradas and Z6s. Un-mounted, it seems to have a little more of a triangular profile than the older tires.

I am looking to change out my tires on my Uly and have heard some good things about AVON Distanzia. Has anyone used this tire or can recommend a good set. I want to get something that can handle forest service dirt roads up here in the NW as well as the rainy weather.

My last two sets have been Distanzia's. I like them a lot but I'm only able to get about 3000 miles before the rear needs replacing. My front has about 7000 miles and has good tread left but it's badly cupped.

I'm going to try the Z6 Interact next.

Wipsmack - We're in the same neighborhood. I've just about wore out my 2nd set of Distanzias. I'm getting about 4500mi out of the rear & twice that out of a front. So order 2 rears with the set. PERFORMANCE: They are a very capable tire for the Uly - work very well on dirt/gravel roads (tho haven't done much mud) & are good - excellent as a wet/dry pavement tire - I think compare quite favorably with the syncs. Out of the 9K mi so far, about 1500 on dirt/gravel - so feel comfortable with recommending them. Only come in a 160 rear - but entirely adequate for any conditions I've encountered. Am hoping Shinko 705's will be available in near future - look alot like a Tourance tread and reportedly good for 7-8K mi, @ half the price.
