Hey all-
I have a buddy that just picked up a 2007 Uly. It is all stock, a demo bike with 2500 miles.
I reset the TPS last night (dealer did it and messed it up), and well as added 3% fuel across the board (I've done this on my XB and my brothers...really seems to help out). It runs pretty strong now, but has the off-idle stumble.
I read a thread on changing the points at which the exhaust valve opens and closes that helped this problem...but can't find that thread now! Any clue which thread?

What other tricks should I be trying to help him out? I have ECMSpy and am somewhat proficient with it.

Other things I did last night- reset the AFV, drained some oil from the primary (the dealer did a fluid change for him...it was about 8 ounces (!!) over full), adjusted the clutch, adjusted the clutch cable and checked the primary chain tension (good). It has a new set of plugs.

Andy- I've never seen reference to changing the ECM control points for the valve, but several people have reported improvements by adjusting the cable. Some have found their actuator cable loose so that the valve doesn't open when or as fully as it should. Easy to check and adjust by removing the airbox cover.

Thanks, I took the air box cover off and it all seemed decent- the cable certainly moved the valve, and I watched it several times through its full range of motion as I activated it through ECMSpy- I "think" that I would have noticed that type of condition, but I have missed things once or twice before! : )

Any other thoughts? I know I read about this here recently...

Idle speed adjustment was the fix for the off idle stumble, IIRC. I remember reading that in a few threads. I don't remember the direction the idle needed to be adjusted, but it wasn't by much, like less than 100 RPM one way or the other.

That being said, don't trust me, I have an 08, so my ECM controls idle speed.

I had the off-idle stumble so bad it was dangerous pulling out into traffic.

I used Treadmark's Square Idle (mine is @ 78) and then fattened up this area
of the map 5% at a time until I got it to stop....YMMV

Here is a timing map that fixed my stumble. I made numerous trys with fueling and various eeproms without success after fixing the intake leak last year. Not saying it will work for everyone but it fixed my stubborn stumble nicely.

Sure the cable and valve will cycle if it's working. I believe Hugh meant to tighten it up and take all the slack out of the cable with the actuator closed.
I did this to my bike a while ago. I think it actually barely cracked open my exhaust valve while the actuator is closed because the bike sounds slightly different at startup. Anyhow it was a major improvement I can actually get the bike down below 10mph in second gear while leaving base and just twist the throttle to smoothly accelerate on the way out. I couldn't do that in 2nd before. On the very next tank my mileage immediately went from high 30's to mid 40's, which cured my biggest complaint about this bike.
