Just rolled into Jackson this evening and the Uly has been running very, very rough the past 100 miles or so as I came out of Yellowstone.

It is rideable but has picked up very noticeable heavy vibration/rough running at 3-3500 rpm. At first I thought it might be the front engine mount going but it looks ok. I'm about 3000 miles into my trip from Virginia and up until now the Uly has been running perfectly.

Don't have my ECM spy and cable with me but first thing I want to do is do a TPS re-set and check the AFV. Looking on the web Jackson has a HD dealer and lists Buell but no service. Anyone have any experience with this dealer? I will call them in the morning and see if they will take look at it.

If not I am heading SE into Colorado towards Boulder and at this point am assuming it will be rideable that far tomorrow.

I'll give the bike a good look in the morning checking grounds and other possible electrical issues and all that jazz .

I would suspect that your primary chain is loose, I would give it a quick check.

Just a thought

The Casper, WY dealer might be a better option and a whole lot closer than Boulder.
Good luck. Mine went down in Chugwater, WY a few days before Sturgis. Ended up renting a truck and hauling it back to Billings. Still sitting at the dealer waiting for a diagnosis.

fwiw, the guys at Grand Junction, Co were quick to fit me in (just an oil change). It's still a distance from ya but thought I'd mention it just in case you press on

Shawn, your probably spot on thinking about the primary chain being loose.....especially since over the last day I did quite a bit of fire road riding in first gear over some rough roads.

I will check it first thing on the morning.

Firstbatch- my vote is primary chain. I did a long ride on rough forest service roads last summer chugging along in first gear for a couple of hours. Later when I was on pavement cruising home, found bike had developed buzzy vibration at 3000-3500 RPM, just where it normally goes glass-smooth. Got home and found primary chain very loose. Adjustment made it like a new bike again.

Good luck!

Checked the primary and it was a bit sloppy and made an adjustment and got some improvement in the vibration/rough riding. Looked at the front isolator further and it looks like it has compressed/collapsed. Under braking the front end feels like it is traveling over those highway rumble strips. Guess the mountain riding took it's toll on the isolator. Between 3300 and 4000 it is awful

Called Casper HD Buell and they did not have a Isolator kit in stock....the Service Manager said......" we don't stock many Buell parts".....like Gomer said "surprise surprise"......called Al at American Sport Bike and he is sending a kit via next day to some family in Boulder.

I road from Jackson to Casper today and then down to Boulder tomorrow and put the kit on . Hope my fam has some tools and a jack???

Had planned to end up in Laramie and go thru the the Snowy Range but some wild weather popped up and had to quickly quickly bail out and go towards Casper.

If anyone is thinking about riding Rte 26 west towards Jackson, WY I would skip it. There is 12 miles of pure dirt that they lead you thru on a pace vehicle that you are lucky to keep it in first gear. Would have been fun without the pace vehicle.

The Uly "paint mixer" was a bear today. It is amazing how vibration thru the pegs, handlebars and seat just wears you out. I felt more tired at the end of today doing 300 miles than in all the previous 3000 combined.

Thanks Al for stocking Buell parts. You are the MAN. And thanks very much for all the advice support from the Badweb

Firstbatch- front isolator replacement is an easy job IF the long bolt through it isn't all corroded. Some guys have found them in pretty bad shape. Otherwise, it's way easier than replacing the front isolator on a tuber. ~15 minute job tops.

Yep, I agree it is simple. I have rotated the engine down several times and when I did I libererally applied anti-sieze

Hugh, if you can provide the torque spec for the big Jesus bolt that would be a big help. And if you know the size of the allen wrench that I need for the bolts that would be great too. I suppose I can fashion some type of support for the muffler with some wood blocking in a pinch.

Thanks}

Kevin- I'll be home in about 2 hours to finish installing my comfort kit. If you can wait that long I'll be glad to get the info for you. Somebody else may chime in in the meantime.

The front isolator bolt specs are 49-51 foot pounds

Cable bracket = 84-92 inch pounds

Upper snubber fastener = 12-36 inch pounds

I figured somebody would beat me to it.

I just checked the fasteners, isolator bolt and upper snubber fastener are both 3/8" allens. Cable bracket is a T-25 Torx; you should have the required Torx in the bike's tool kit.

I'm siting at home - can't get into a job site until the plumber gets done. Bike has been down since the 3rd and in the local dealers since the 4th. Can't get anyone to even pull a code to see WTF's wrong.
At least I can do somebody else some good.

High Country H-D/Buell is open for service 7 days a week, Hwy-52 & I-25 in Frederick, not 15 miles from Louisville, CO. A BWB sponsor, the number there is 303.833.6777 Don't know if they have parts you might still need but we have at least three top-notch Buell techs, we race Buells in several forms, so keep us in mind if further work is needed.
