Ok, it's my first tire replacements on my XT, any suggestions? Been thinking about the Angel ST's but those might not be available. Any other thoughts from the collective?

Have you been happy with the Stradas? They are plentiful for now. Your dealer should be able to get Angles if you want to try them.

I was pretty impressed with the Michelin Pilot Road 2. They lasted well, and were incredible in the rain.

I haven't seen any retailers selling the Angel yet, but the Metz Z6 Interact, from all the descriptions, is nearly an identical tire. I have a set sitting on my tire changer just waiting for cords to get here on the current tires.

I'm putting a set of Dunlop Road Smarts on my XT this weekend. I've heard a lot of good things about them, so I'm going to give them a try. I'll be riding out to Indianapolis for the Mile and GP in a couple of weeks, so I'll know if I like them when I get back.
I've had a lot of good tires from Dunlop over the years, so I'm curious to see how these work.

I ride allot of gravel here in Kansas and I put the Dunlop D616 on my ULY and it does great on the gravel roads.

I'm on my second RoadSmart (on an X). There have been several threads on these tires. I never got more than 5,000 out of the Sync'sand I got 6,300 miles out of the first RoadSmart. It was the same price as the Sync but 20% more life. So, far I like them.

What kind of mileage did you get out of your Stradas? The Syncs on my X are wearing fast, 3000 on them and I'm already thinking of what to buy next. They are a fantastic tire but wear pretty fast, every thing's a compromise!

Don, I've got about 10,000 on the Stradas that are on the bike now. Most of those miles have been commuting and traveling on the slab. I haven't run the Syncs, but I'm pretty sure the Stradas will out last them on pavement.

I've heard some good things about the Shinko (Yokohama) Raven 009's. The price is certainly right and the reviews on wear, dry handling and wet handling have been generally favorable. Anyone tried them yet? I probably will next tire change.

I don't do much gravel, but I did try 2 rears and 1 front of the Scorpion Syncs. No difference, that I could tell, in their gravel vs. street performance in a straight line. Cornering on the Syncs on pavement was fun when they were cold though!! I got about 6500 miles on each rear. The Diablo Strada is a seriously great tire! I got almost 12K out of one rear. That's pretty good. Cornering on pavement on the Strada is sticky. Other than mileage, the biggest difference may be the ride feel is better on the Strada, and the cut resistance is better on the Syncs.

How on earth are you guys getting 10k out of a strada rear? My orig. was shot (major cords showing) at 4200 miles, front toast at 7200. Spooned on a set of Roadsmarts,so far so good, no chicken strip on the rear, WV3 will be the real test! I'd be happy with 5 to 6 K on a rear!

That's my question too! I just replaced my Strada with 5,000 miles on it. It really couldn't go any further... The bike is new and I've been loving the torque, but I had hoped it would last longer. Good tire though, and I replaced it with the same.

What PSI do you run in it to get that kind of high mileage?

About 8k on mine, its about half way done. I have gotten 18k on a Sync.

Road materials in different parts of the country, tire pressures, ambient temperatures, riding styles -- even elevation can have an affect on tire life.

For the record - 5,000 miles for a Sync is it for me, and that's down to the cords.

I keep the pressures at 36F/38R. I don't beat on the bike, but I don't really baby it, either. I do tend to be a lot easier on a bike in the winter as traction is reduced so much; but I put the current tire on in late March. However, I got 13K out of the previous Strada, which was ridden through the Winter. I don't use the rear brake a lot, but I do use it.
Anyway, to answer the question,I don't know; but I must be doing something right.

I've got 6k on mine now and they look barely worn to me.
The roads are very rough here but it never gets hot and is usually always wet. This is most likely the reason for the tires lasting even though half my riding is 2up including 100mph traveling on the autobahn.

4K from the one rear I tried and I didn't like it at all...

Two 616's went 7.5K, Syncs go 6.5K for me, getting ready to try the Roadsmarts.

I'd also add suspension setup. If you are set to rebound too slowly, you scuff your tires more, sanding them down at a higher rate than if the tire remains in contact with the ground.

Agreed.

I think the biggest factors are the road materials, rider "style", and ambient temperatures, provided tires are kept anywhere near recommended air pressures.
Florida often has a crushed coral base in the asphalt -- they don't last long around here !

My Strada has about 5400 on it and I am on the wear bars and in need of a replacement. I haven't liked the way it has worn and the transition from center to outside is cupped and not the most inspiring. Hope to put on those Angel ST's as they are supposed to have real good wear.

According to the diagram on Pirelli's website they don't wear any better that the Stradas. They just have more grip and different profile.

I've got 7000+ miles on my xt stradas. I have just ordered another strada, because the cornering has gone to crap. The sidewall is shot, and the hard compound is still very thick. The stradas are a good tire for me

Today, I put the RoadSmarts on my XT. The Stradas were almost to the wear bars, and I'll be riding for the next couple of weekends, so today was the best time to do the change.
Anyway, after I got done, I went out for a short ride to wear off the mold release from the tread, and get a feel for the new tires. They feel good. I think I'm going to like them.

A world of different opinions. I had to replace the rear Strada on my XT at 3k. Got done under warranty (sides were cupping badly) & the dealer replaced it with a Sync at no charge and I had a Sync put on the front. IMHO, it's a far better tire on the steet and very good off the tarvy.

Probably going to try some Bridgestone Battleax BT021's next time around.
