Went on their website - seems as though they have a new "VHT Flame Proof" header paint with a silica / ceramic base. Is this the stuff folks have been using to redo the Uly muffler? |

Jphish- yea, that's the stuff. See the discussion on muffler rust in the New Owner Info thread linked at the top of the BB&D page. Like one guy says, the most important thing you can do is prepare the surface properly before painting. Grit blasting to "white metal" is preferred. There's also been discussion that it's best to cure the paint in an oven after painting as some parts of the muffler may not get hot enough to cure it properly. |

See Ft_bstrd's post on the subject. Wait until she leaves the house on a Saturday, cure muffler, then clean oven. Muffler fumes will be disguised by oven cleaner fumes, and you will get rewarded instead of wailed on! |

I'll have to check oven dimensions to insure the 'muffler pie' fits. "Honey - we need a new oven so I can bake more cookies and cure my muffler" That might be the cause of me recieving the dreaded 'LOOK'. |

Maybe it'll fit in a gas grill? |

Given that prep is critical to good results, I think I will find a place to do the blasting - trying to sand all that rust off could take awhile. |

Yea, I'm thinking about having that done too. I used to know a guy that had his own blasting cabinet, that would be nice to have access to right now... |

Run a propane torch through the pipe after painting or a good heat gun. Once its on the bike complete a couple of heat cycles and its baked on! |

That's a great idea. Gets you out of having to clean the oven too! |
