Have been looking at these Ulys and noticed a difference in one of the engine covers that I'm not sure about. On the HD Twin-Cams it's called the timer cover and use to house the ignition until they moved it under the seat. Anyway most pics show the cover that is on the right side just below the cylinders with a roundish cover that says Buell or something like that while a few bikes have a much larger cover that is rectangular and says Thunderstorm". What is under that cover and what's the difference? | ||

The new rectangular cover houses the updated oil pump I believe. | ||

SG- The difference is pre- and post-08 bikes. Prior to 08, XB's had a vertically mounted oil pump under the case on this side, driven through a 90 degree gear arrangement off the crank, and an ignition timing sensor behind the round cover you mention that sensed off of the end of one of the cams. Starting in 08, XB's went to a different (better) oiling system driven off of the cams and the oil pump is behind the larger semi-rectangular cover. The ignition sensor on these engines is directly off the crankshaft. | ||

Thanks for the help. So if I understand correctly, the newer bikes have the rectangular cover with the newer oil pump arrangement. |
