hi all,

i apologize in advance as i know the HID issue has been covered many times before as i found out in the search...its just too much info in there?

i am in the process of converting my low beam to HID.
here is my question:

Am I ok to wire it in using the standard OE harness - ie. just plug the ballast straight into the existing old H7 plug???
will this cause issues on startup?
i havent bridged my lights so that both stay on at high beam and i do not intend to do so...
can i there for not just switch the bike to high beam before turning on the ignition / engine and once the bike is running switch to low beam (HID)???

what is the best way? please enlighten me...
thx Lars

I'll be doing the same thing shortly. The general concession here is to run a hot wire with a fuse from the battery to a relay which is switched off the headlight plug. Now how this all goes together I have not figured that out yet. Though some have wired into the harness with no problems.

I have HID on both the high and low stock harness...for over a year now...and no issues whatsoever. You don't ever need to worry about the starter interrupt of the HID if you let the HID come up to full temp prior to hitting the starter (about 5-7 seconds).

Maximum,

Are your HID's 35W or 55W. I will be installing some on mine this weekend and will have the low beam on the citylight circuit (as you do if I recall). My units are 35W so they should be OK?

It'll probably be fine, particularly if you develop the habit of getting the bike running before you switch on the HID's.

Rwven...mine are 35w. I just installed mine on the high and low circuits, and did the switch jumper mod in the hi/low beam switch. It works great...and there are no issues at all with the start sequence shut off or the power load (and they are BRIGHT)!

just check my ballast and its the 35w version, so i guess i just wired it in the OEM loom...its the easiest way...

Btw: on my BMW R1100S i have done it the same way and it works fine...

thx for all your comments

hi all,

just installed my HID bulb into the low beam. i put the balast just behind the horn on top of that bracket...seems a perfect fit...
i wired it in using the old OE wires...
i will just ensure that i always switch to high beam for start up to give the engine every power it needs for starting and after 30 sec switch to low beam (HID)...
i did not take any pics, but i think most of you have done this already, therefore you all know what it looks like!
next bit to install are the handlebar extenders - i installed the new Stainless steel bar end already which i got of Palmer product! - great service and they look very nice...

thx Lars

here is picture of the new light!!! much brighter...

i did not bother doing the mod for getting both light on at the same time...

here is the standard high beam:

and here the low beam (HID)...

the only thing left to do is checking if i have set the height of the lights correctly, but i will do that once its darker...as i dont want to offend other road -users by blinding them....lol

thx Lars

Lars,

What color temperature is that light? I bought a 6000K for my low beam and I'm putting 3000k's in my driving lights.

I started my installation last night and turned one of the 3000K driving lights on, very bright and very yellow, just like I wanted.
