hi all,

Having picked up my Uly on July 2nd i have this weekend passed the first 1000mls of my ownership.

My love affair with started in the summer of 2005 when I was on a tour through Wales (UK) with a friend on my old Suzuki and I first saw a picture of the Uly in a british bike magazine... from there on i always knew that i would have one - one day!

I test rode one on early 2006 and love it but funding issues prevented the purchase and I bought a second hand BMW R1100S (which i still have...) and on which i recently completed a 3500mls tour through the scottish highland...(http://www.freewebs.com/bmwrideruk/2009scotlandlarskate.htm). During this trip I told my missus that I want a more upright bike for touring and for everyday use...which brought me back to the Uly. As we have 3 other BMW's in the garage the most logical step would have been a GS, but everyone has got one and its just too clinical and not involving enough...

I test road a new XT and luckily got a 06 Uly offered by a fellow UK Buell Forum member... The Uly has just passed the 10k mark and will get its 10k service done within the next couple of weeks.

here are my impressions after the first 1000mls.

1. All day comfort - 100%
2. Engine pick up and power - enough to keep you entertained and certainly enough for real road riding!
3. Conti Road Attack - i am getting used to them and like it!!!
4. Fuel economy - 55.8mpg (UK) Great!
5. Quality of finish: with minimal effort i can get the Uly back to showroom conditions!
6. Buell tankbag - is great and i am having it on every ride.
7. Brakes - perfect - I even like the rear brake not being to grippy (just bought EBC HH pads for the front will be fitted with 10k service)
8. Handling perfect - apart from slight handlebar shimmy which i posted before and could be done to steering head bearing and / or the steps in the 50% worn front Conti...

All I can say I am absolutely loving it...did 160mls today (140 yesterday) just riding for the sake of it!!!
here is a pick from today...

today my uly

Anyway, i would go on, but i may just go out again for an evening ride - despite the rain!!!

thx Lars}

Hey Mnrider, how do you keep your trellis attached, and do you have to water that flower or just ride in the rain?

Seems those flower petals would just blow off at speed. The garden art bird bath could be used to replace the top case. Luv those Black Uly's!

The umbrella girl is rated to 128mph.
The flowers do take a beating though.

First post for me.Glad you are enjoying your Uly.I had a 07 that I had to sell but it was a Great Bike! Anyway just bought a 09 Uly XT. Believe it or not the bike has less than 600 miles on it! Going to pick it up this weekend, believe me can't wait to get my hands on this one!!}
