My muffler has turned almost entirely orange (just to be in tune with the fall colors I guess) The dealer refused to replace it since it was not rusted thru. Got about 8 mos left on warranty and will push the issue with them as I get closer to expiration. Question: when I replace it what is the most durable solution to the rust problem. I don't want to have to remove it every year for a BBQ treatment. Ceramic coat, Jet coat ? A concoction of batwings, frog hair & antisieze ?? Just wondering.

jet coat it! I have the Buell race muffler on mine but if I had it to do over, I would have both my header and stock exhaust jet coated black.

Apparently buell are finally coming into the 21st century and changing the exhaust to a different material, stainless at a guess?

+2 on the Dupli-color black ceramic paint. I use it on my VW bug race headers/mufflers and it holds up better than any other paint I've tried over the years.

Prep. Sand, if necessary. I use degreaser and rinse well. Hang dry and don't touch with your greasy fingers, arms, etc. Paint as per the directions on the can. Enjoy.

Don't forget to tape your screw holes to keep the threads clean.

Can't speak to duplicolor. I do know if you decide to go jethot it's good stuff. I've had mine a cpl years and it looks brand spanking new. Not cheap but good quality. Don't know how it holds up if you use your muffler as a bashplate though. Mines on an XB9 and the jethot thankfully hasn't been bash tested yet.

PJ1 makes the best exhaust paint in my opinion. It is a ceramic paint that if cured correctly last a real long time. VHT now makes a ceramic base paint available at most auto parts stores. The trick is the curing, you need to heat cycle the muffler after its painted to cure the paint. Its amazing stuff

DavidXT, you should know better than to listen to anything a H-D dealer tells you.

As much oil as I just spilled on mine, it should never rust.
