I was entertaining the possibility of getting a blue air box cover and
windscreen and putting a white racing stripe on them.

What’s the best/easiest way to do this – vinyl or paint?

Here’s the look I had in mind ...(I'm a big fan of Cobras):

I scored mine from a friend who works for a graphics company. But I'm sure you could find some on Ebay for cheap.

Very nice - how do you like the bars, Mike.

I personally love them! Lower bars are surely a matter of personal taste and ergonomic fitment. I removed the windscreen, so the forward lean to the bars helps me absorb the wind a little better....unless I'm doing 110, then I'm just holding on for dear life! : )

And here's another nice shot I had to throw in! (thanks Gary)

Or paint it up like 'Eleanor":

Eleanor's Paint Codes:

Body - Pepper Grey Metallic - Dupont Fleet 44490
Stripes - Black Metallic - Dupont Fleet 44435

I just had a thought - paint the windscreen and air cleaner cover 'GRAPHITE GREY' (same as the frame), then stripe it black.

Might make for a interesting (Eleanor-ish) monochrome look.

EDIT:
If only someone could Photoshop this concept...but who?

John, if you're gonna go with the Graphite Grey and black stripes, you should definitely have the stripes painted in! That would look pretty rad, and quite original for a Uly. Haven't seen a grey one yet! Be a first John! Do it! : )

Hey Mike,

I think I might order a spray can of Graphite Grey and a fly screen to do a proof of concept - total w/ shipping should be less than $100.

Based on the stripe width of Eleanor, spacing and the frontal width of the Mustang, I came up with these stripes
done to scale (EDIT: which works out to be 2" stripes w/ 1/2" gap):

If you want to try the vinyl graphics, I've had a kit from these guys http://tapeworks.com/ on my VTR and it's top notch stuff.

Thanks Tq! I love the way it looks. Besides, I've heard those damn windscreens can fly off and kill you.

Thanks for the help Mike, I'm going to take your advice and start with the Eleanor Grey first.

I found a spray can of "Pepper Grey Metallic - Dupont Fleet 44490 " for $26 here:

An original AC 427 cobra in action.

The AC Cobra in the film was played by two different 427 cars, serial numbers CSX 3243 and CSX 3255.

Hey Bosh, RE: TapeWorks.com

Got the idea to reverse the color scheme and try metallic gray stripes
on my black bike first, just for kicks....sent an email to tapeworks
with this photo of 'Eleanor Gray':

Here's their reply - what a great company.

""John, since it's pretty hard to tell the best match with a photo, I am sending
our silver and charcoal color samples out to you at your address below. It would be most
economical (assuming you find a good match) to modify our Rimstripe product - which
is 5' in length - to 2" width. You would get 2 stripes, each 2" wide, for about $22.95 (most colors) plus S&H.
Barbara at Tapeworks""
