hi guys,

i have only had my 06 Uly for a couple of weeks and i noticed that my front is wobbling between 40-60mph...worst at 50mph. its extreme with both hand off the bar, but even with one hand or both hand lightly on its noticeable...

i initially put if down to the squared off rear tyre - which has since been replace. the tyres are conti road attacks and i kept the front as it still had thread on it (half way worn). i have set up the suspension to my weight and also change the Zero gravity screen in all possible positions which no result. i also tried setting up the suspension on hard (meaning everything to max) no change. i tried turning the rear preload down etc...

I have noticed that my front tyre has got steps in the profile. could this be cause. i took a picture, not sure if you can see it on there....

the bike has done 10k miles and the wheels are balanced.

any other ideas anyone???
please let me know
thx Lars

Lars- I wouldn't think the Conti is causing a problem; several people have run them with good reports. I suppose it is possible that the wear profile is causing the issue.

The first thing I'd check would be the steering head bearings. Make sure they are adjusted to spec. Too loose can cause these kinds of problems.

It could also be a balance issue with the front tire, you may want to check that. I ran the Conti's for years without issue, they wouldn't be my first suspect.

+1 on the steering head bearings. It apparently was happening with the previous owner as well, as the uneven tread wear shows. Check the tire pressure as well. If all that is in order and the suspension is set correctly, I would tend to believe it's just a bad tire. You will need a new tire regardless.

+1 on checking the steering head bearings. I just had the same problem with my Beemer. Adjusting the steering head bearings made my problem go away.

You should also check wheel bearings and tire balance as mentioned.

ok, my Uly is going in for its 10k service next tuesday at a local Harley specialist...i will ask him to check out the head bearing and wheel bearings...

if that doesn't cure it i just get a new set of rubber....

nor sure what to put on though!!! i have Michelin PR2 on my R1100S and love them...although BT021's were ok too...

thx for your input guys
Lars
