- Surprisingly, when ridden in an hooligan-type manner, my '08 Uly XT only goes exactly 51.8 kms (32.4 miles) after the fuel light goes on.

- Pushing my '08 Uly XT on the side of a 4 lane divided highway is not fun at all.

- 18 year old guys on Suzuki GSXR 600s who see a guy pushing an '08 Uly on the opposite side of the road and turn around to help, and then ride to the nearest exit, buy a little gas can and then ride back to the Uly rider are pretty well the best type of 18 year old guys there are.

- I feel just as dumb running out of gas now as I did the last time I did it, 6 years ago.

32.4 miles! That's more than I would have expected. Well, that's a good number to know for future reference. It's cool that you got some help from some young riders.

I ran out with my S3 a few years ago. Out cruising backroads, fuel light came on, and I made the mistake of riding on thinking I'd find a station. I found one, but it must have last sold gas in ~1990. Nursed it on to the next town and the bike started sputtering at the town limits. I coasted into the first station as the engine died. That's cutting it pretty close...

That's real close to the same as I got when I ran out,but my fuel light never came on so I thought I was getting this awesome gas mileage then it just quit!! 4 miles from the gas station, but this really nice lady stopped and asked if I needed help, then she went and got me a gallon of fuel as I was pushing my bike down the road...Still some nice people out there!

I only got 28 miles, pushed it about a half of a mile. Define hooligan.

I coasted one into a gas station with 29.5 miles on the clock.

"Define hooligan."

Hooligan for me was testing my windshield setup for my upcoming trip. That meant running down the highway at 120-140 kph (75-87 mph), stopping at every exit, making an adjustment or two, then getting back on the highway using the on-ramp to see if I can get the pegs to touch and revving the snot out of it till I'm up to highway speeds. There was a bit of front tire off the ground in there too.... I'm sure there are some that ride like that all the time, but for me that's hooliganism..

I was surprised that it ran out so quickly... I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about someone going 50 some miles before running out on his Uly...

Based on what I'm hearing, I guess I did pretty good though.

Trevd, I beat you! My Uly got 35.9 miles before I had to push it about 500 ft to the gas station on my way home today! I had forgotten completely about gas because I passed three gas stations on the way home before I ran out of gas!

Damn it was hard pushing that bike, it was uphill!

The real story here is the 18 year old guys that went way out of their way to help out a fellow motorcyclist. It seems that those type of humanitarian deeds were going to the wayside. You wouldn't know it by reading some of the posts here on Badweb, but that type of comradery is becoming rare in the "civilian" world, and it's refreshing to hear it hasn't been lost on the newer generation of riders.

And if thats the definition of hooliganism, I fit the profile.

Yeah, the young ones are sometimes better than the 40-something wanker on his Yamaha Road Star with his gal on the back who rode right by today even though I was pushing the bike and put my thumb out when I saw him coming by...

I helped out a Gold Wing on the plains of North Dakota that had trouble making it to the next gas station last week. The extra 5 gal tank comes in handy.

I thought I had gone further before on my light but sure didn't happen on today's ride home! 35.9 and I was pushing mine!

while I was pushing my Uly to the gas station, two Harleys rode buy and one yelled at me to get a Harley! That would have just been harder to push uphill. lol

That is like the time I was flying an experimental aircraft with a friend of mine and I asked him how many hours of fuel we had, he responded 1 hour 18 minutes - I did not have to ask why but after we landed he told me about landing in a cow pasture and using his cell phone to call a buddy to bring him 5 gallons of fuel.

I ran out of gas the first week of having my Uly......almost made it to the gas station.....and some very nice skateboarders offered to push the bike there. Restored my faith in America's youth.

At 80 MPH on the Ohio Turnpike, I got 35 miles out of reserve. I managed to just roll into a Service Area. I didn't quite have enough momentum to roll all the way to the pumps, but I made it into the parking area. Now I know how far I can go on Reserve.

The thing that worked for me after running out, was to lean the bike as far as possible to the left, cycle kill switch, restart. That got me almost another mile and a half. Of course I was also sitting on the side of the saddle as far as I could get to keep the bike leaned as far as possible to the left.

Great to hear about people helping out. Lately it seems like, I'm not seeing the love. When I broke my belt, in the two plus hours I sat waiting for a tow, exactly ONE person stopped to offer assistance of the 50 or so riders that passed, and the more times I stop for other riders, it seems like that is almost the norm.

In the middle of towing a friends broken car home for him, I came across a old R75/5 sitting on the side of the interstate. I stopped to render what assistance I could, only to watch bike after bike pass with freaking blinders on. Evidently he had been there for a good 20 minutes before I got there with the same results. We ended up getting him a tow home, but still with all the riders that passed, none stopped.

Karma. I like to keep it positive.

After a long, hot ride a few weeks ago I did a U-turn to help a guy on an old Yamaha with a broken clutch cable. I had tools - he didn't. We rigged it up so he could ride the rest of his ride. When I'm broken down on the side of the road, I want Karma on my side!

Kudos to the 18 year old on the Gixxer that went out of his way. Nice dude.
