I put the uly in for the 15,000 miles service yesterday and today the shop calls and says I have leaky rocker boxes. What causes them to leak. I do a lot of teaching with the uly on the parking lot, I do warm it up before I ride it, or is it just normal wear and tear?

I was always told by the techs its cuz folks don't let warm-up enuf. Thats from the days of tubers and those paper gaskets.

I haven't heard much from XB owners having this problem. Especially @ 15k.

My XT had a leaking rear rocker box gasket this past May, and my wife's Ss just got out of the shop for the same affliction last night. We let our bikes warm up and don't beat on them. I thought the leaks were cured with the new gaskets, but obviously they aren't. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't necessary to rotate the engine to change them out.

I let my Uly warm up , if I don't it runs rough. I did run the hell out of it during the last instructor training I attended last April. I'm an Old school buell rider as well I guess some things will remain the same

Same here. 08 Uly with 5500 Mi. Rear Cyl Rocker Box leaking. Oil also on and around fan. I think it has more to do with the higher temp cycles the rear rocker box is subject to.

07 Uly has gone through two rear rocker box gaskets - 15,000 and 24,000. Both times were sudden failures, everything fine at one gas stop, and then a massive leak at the next. Also both occurrences were several days out on extended trips. No clue as to the cause, but I also suspect the heat. Installed Cometic gaskets this last time, and it has been OK for 6,000.

I've had the rear rocker gasket replaced 3 times in 32,000 miles.

At least the last time the leak didn't take the fan out like the first 2 times.

I've noticed a little moisture on my Uly's rear rockerbox, but it appears to be more from the breather grommet than from the rockerbox gasket. Just like a PCV grommet on every single car I've ever owned...they weep.

At least, that's what mine looks like.

My 2008 started to leak at about 13,000.
Probably learned it from watching his room-mates 2000 X1 and 1979 XLH1000.

Is this an issue with just the newer models?? I don't remember hearing of any 06's leaking. Perhaps a change in gasket vendors in the last year or so?
