Picked up the Optronics driving lights at Walmart for $16. They are 2 1/2" spheres that look much like the PIAA 1100X. Had the PIAA on a previous bike and really like them but a bit on the spendy side.

Great thing about the Optronics is the lamp is a MR16 which are readily available in multiple wattage and beam angles. The Walmart pkg includes 50 watt lamps with 40 degree beam angle which is more like a flood light. Lowes and Home Depot sell replacement lamps for about $5. And if you really want to go hi-tech you could install MR16 LED lamp. Lots of choices.

Mounted the lamps to the low bolt hole on the fork slider covers using a simple 1" spacer and a 2" 1/4"-20 bolt. Really like the the triangulation of light this mount provides. Similar to what you get with the Motolight caliper mounts. I suppose they are vulnerable to being damaged if you off road much but, at $16 it would be simple to repair/replace.

Bottom line. How does their output compare to the PIAAs?

They seem to be almost to bright and I most likely will go down to a 35 watt lamp with a 15 degree beam angle. For daytime riding the visibility they provide to other motorist is tremendous.

Very nice ... but it looks like you have a headlight out.

A few pics outside with multiple light configuration.....and I gave the headlight a whack and look, that one that was out came on.

Decide to turn the beam down 5 degree from plumb and that makes these 50 watt lamps work well for visibility without having the death-ray look.

Hoop, I just ran the wires up the fork cover and then ran it up the front brake line to the nose cone for terminations, etc

Hey Firstbatch,

How do you like those 'wind wings' (very cool) and where did you get them.

Thanks

Yep, the Shades work great and together with the Strada bracket and a ZG screen it is near perfect turbulence "management" for me. It's funny, in the pics you see the Shades, but looking at the bike they disappear
