I sent an email to Shinko on any plans to pour a 705 in a 180 size. Buell, Duc, Triumph could all use 'em. let you know what I get in response. j

Good job Jphish. Make it easy on us and provide the Shinko email address and who knows... maybe an mini email campaign might be persuasive... there certainly is a need for this type of tire in our sizes!

I'm thinking that the 150/70-17 69Q TL will work. Pretty sure that there are buellers that put on the 150/70-17 distanzias, so if the distanzias fit then the shinko shoe should as well.
Looks like Chaparral has got them. There's a Chaparral by me, I'll see if they can mount up a rear on my X.

Certainly the price is right. Wouldn't some of those others work even though they are not radial?

I hope that the price on these shoes last, looks like the wee/vee and gs guys on adv are all hyped up about these shoes.

most of the posts prior to page 15 are guys talking about having them on order or mounting them as they type . Looks like there is some real data starting to come in on the performance of these tires. I'm thinking that even if the tire is good for 5k miles that its a steal at 53 bucks.

Promising...

I wrote to Shinko at this email:
info@shinkotireusa.com

I ride a Buell Ulysses. I hope you will eventually manufacture the Shinko 705 tires in sizes to fit my bike! (rear is 180/55 and front is 120/70)

Shinko wrote back:

"We have just started producing the 705 and we built the molds for a few specific machines we had in mind that we thought the tire would work well on. As for sizing in the future we will definitely look at those sizes you mentioned. We would just to see how these ones work out first before we go and start building a bunch of molds that cost a ton of money. Maybe next year who knows?!?! Thanks again for your input and we look forward to keeping you on the road in the future!"

I think they need to know how many of us want this tire for our brave Ulys

I still dont see the problem with putting on the 150/70-17 69Q TL. Rim size looks right, the profile seems that it would work.

Recommended rim for a 150 tire is 4 to 4.5.
For a 180 tire it is 5.5 to 6 inches wide.
I would think it would be dangerous to mount a 150 on our bikes!

Growl - Glad you got a response from Shinko. I didn't. I also reminded them that Tigers, Duc's & others also use the 17" 180 rear. I'm getting less than 5K mi out of the Distanzias - wish they would go to a Dual compound tread like the PR2's. Meanwhile...wish Shinko would bust in with a new 180 mold. Nice to have more options.

I'm not getting much more off the rear sync. Maybe 6K.

I tried the Maxxis tires that everyone at advrider was raving about when they first came out. Put them on my wife's V-Strom. The rear made it less than 4,000 miles. I would want to see the type of mileage people are getting before putting in a order. Switched to Metzler Tourance on the Strom. Heard a rumor that Metzler may make these to fit the Uly.

I too am looking for another option. Sync's are making it 7,000 plus but I have had 2 rear flats riding gravel roads. Both on tires with less than 2,000 miles on them.

It is bad enough when a V-Strom riding buddy gives you a bad time about getting a flat tire. It is even worse when it is your wife!

I just changed my stock rear Sync at 9955 miles. (Almost all interstate riding). Going up to BRP tomorrow to scrub in the new Pilot Road II. Can't wait to see what kind of milage I get out of it.

some of the guys that have the shinkos on are claiming that the rear may go for around 6k miles. I figure if a tire for under a hundred bucks can go 6k then I'm buying, not to mention that it looks like its got enough meat on it for the dirt.

I too sent them an email:
To whom it may concern,

I'm a rider of the Buell Ulysses, currently running a set of Shinko 009 Ravens and love the stability, grip, and mostly the wear characteristics of this tire for the great price. I'd like you know that the Buell riders community, specifically us Ulysses riders, are committed to campaigning for you to produce your new 705 tire in a rear 180/55 and front 120/70 to fit the Ulysses. We appreciate your efforts to produce quality tires at affordable prices. Rest assured, if you make it, we will come.

Sincerely,
C
and got back:

Hi Chad,
I will pass the information on to Shinko corporate in South Korea.

Thanks for the input!
