Well how stupid was this..mygod..wondered why it was handling so crappy..and it went fast. Shoulda likely changed it at eight thousand k's..but this is just over eleven..first tire on a new bike, well, now I know how far it will go. Changed it for a Scorpion, will see how it holds out..  | ||

OH, I should add that the folks in Idaho Falls Harley and Buell, and their sister nonBuell store in TwinFalls were more than helpful in making all this work. The tire was shipped the three hours to Twin Falls, and I was on the road by one in the afternoon the next day..awesome. Do wonder however why there is NON Buell stores..I see the support dwindling for our rides..What now... | ||

Hey Palladin - do you have a business card with a Knight chess piece on it ? I had a flash back to my misspent youth - I thought Richard Boone was the coolest thing on 2 feet. Wanted to be a gunslinger... but my Mom would only let me have a daisy BB rifle. Hard to enforce the law with something that shoots a .17 copper ball at a blistering 500ft/sec. Joined USMC @ 18... changed my mind about being a gun slinger. Anyway, that is one skinny tire in the middle. Did you really have 11K on it ? Thats gotta be a record!! AND... you lived to tell about it. Should I say 'ride safe' ? PS - the sides still look good for another 2-3K. j | ||

My Strada has started to cup pretty bad. 5400mi on it so it will be changed sometime shortly to something else. I don't like the fact there is not a way for water to get out from under the tire straight up. Would like a tire with grooves that go past the halfway point. | ||

Did you really have 11K on it ? Thats gotta be a record!! Not even close. I had 13,691 on my Diablo Stradas when I changed them out. Terri had 15,457 on the original Diablos that came on her Ss. She did have a little cord showing, but nowhere near as much as the tire above. | ||

Hmmm - Palladin - Ive never gotten more than 5500 mi out of a Sync. I do change 'em out shortly after the wear bars show up. I got a set of PR2s in the garage for when my Distanzias give it up. j | ||

Reading this thread got me thinking about a problem I had with a brand new tire on my Blast. About a week in to owning it on my way up north, the tread started coming off. Being I was getting used to riding I didn't really notice any handling problems until I hit up a road being resurfaced, which I accounted to that. I was making as good of time as the bike would allow up till then from St. Paul and then quickly came upon a lot of traffic in Brainerd which may have turned out to be a blessing since it was stop and go the rest of the way to my cabins. Upon completing the ride lets just say I was pretty stunned to notice my new back tire not looking so new. Has anyone ever heard of this happening to a Blast OEM Dunlop tire?  | ||

My Blast came with a Dunflop too, it hasn't fallen apart yet but I will be putting Pirelli's on it soon anyway. | ||

One of my co workers has an Oldwing and he was telling me how everyone on the 'wing forums bitch about the OEM Dunflops too and he loves the Michelin's he is running now (no models specified) | ||

I had a '68 Torino with a 390, big giant 4 bbl, high rise, all that crap. Had a set of G/T qualifiers on it. Got up to 140 mph and the tread started delaminating just like the picture above. Still liked that D-616 on the back of the Uly though. | ||

positively sure. All that hit that dunlop tire up was minnesota roads, mostly smooth highway. | ||

Ok guys that is eleven thousand kilometers..so what is that in american..just over six thousand miles..sucks if you ask me..but about what I got on the Road King..twelve was normal..had the bike since middle april, brand new, not a k on it when I got it..I ride hard and torque it out of the corners some..this bike loves to rail the corners..I usually use the speed limit sign as a guide only..lucky so far.. Nope, no chess man on my business card, but I too was infatuated with the Hired Gun..my boyhood was traumatized when I did not get a holster and gun set for christmas at about six..figured this to be a good place to use the handle.. I now live out my dream as a hired gun as a photographer, and that seems to work some..no loud noises, but hey..still hired to shoot..well, sort of.. Yeah, big chicken strips alright..and did wonder if I could ride a few extra miles on the sides...seems so unfair. I do have a blog with the last travels on it, not sure I am allowed to put here..will put it here and see what falls.. http://www.harley-roadking.blogspot.com hope I am not breaking any rules by putting that here..I do try and keep track of my rides and jobs on it..only a personal site really, nothing for sale.. Mmmm, fried chicken strips... I'm going to enjoy reading the blog at work when it's slow this summer, and take notes for my own forthcoming blog. Why not? I've seen delaminated tires from an assortment of brands. I've seen delaminated Bridgestones, Michelins, Cheng Shins, Nittos, and Pirellis. I once saw a Pirelli that spit off more of its tread than the Dunlop pictured above, but I still ride on Pirellis. How many tread sections from Semis have you seen on the highway? All brands have problems. To look at one example of a bad tire and to condemn every tire from that manufacturer would be akin to seeing one Buell that had a problem and condemning all Buells as unreliable. Dunlop makes good tires. When I used to race, Dunlops were the preferred tire of choice for club racers by a wide margin. I've put hundreds of thousands of miles on Dunlops, and never had a problem. They've given me reasonable life with good traction and are decent on wet pavement. I have a set of Road Smarts out in the garage that I'm going to put on my XT when the Diablo Stradas wear out. Road Smarts are getting some pretty good reviews from people on other forums. If they're as good as I've read, I'll probably like them. |
